It only took them a decade, but one of the 90s biggest stars, Selena, finally received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The iconic Tejano music singer received her star on Friday, Nov. 3. She broke barriers during her time on earth and even after death. The unveiling of her star brought 4,500 fans, the most people to attend an unveiling since 1998 when legendary Vicente Fernandez was honored.

This is history in the making. Selena was an angel. And we thank the family for all they gave and have given this country, and it’s a message we need now more than ever. Because we aren’t strangers to this land, this is our home,” the Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti spoke from the podium at the event.

Eva Longoria was also in attendance. As a fellow Texan, she took to the crowd to talk about what Selena symbolized to her growing up. “Selena’s voice was a key that unlocked the hearts and minds of millions. She was a small town girl with a big heart and a smile that radiated and captivated people everywhere. That small town was my hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas. And she was the face I finally saw that looked like mine,” shared Longoria.

Her relatable personality, talent, beauty and fashion sense inspired a wave of people in the 90s and continued to do so with the millennial and gen-x generation as evident by the staggering amount of people dressed like her for Halloween 2017. Even celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Demi Lovato dressed like Selena.

Ending the ceremony, was Selena’s sister Suzette Quintanilla saying, “The goal isn’t to live forever, but to create something that will,” a quote by her Walk of Fame star recipient sister Selena Quintanilla-Perez.
