Sam Smith won over people’s heart around the globe just three years ago and he’s doing it again. His latest album The Thrill of It All has scored him major points leaping from the No. 10 spot on the Billboard 200 Album chart to the No. 1 spot.

Perhaps it was his soulful and vulnerably personal songs on his new album that helped Sam Smith make his way to the number one spot, beating out tenured music giants like Maroon 5 and Blake Shelton according to Nielsen SoundScan on Monday, Nov. 13.

You have to realize: this is his sophomore album. At any moment in any artists’ early career, they can be easily forgotten if they don’t surpass the success of their first album.

The Thrill of It All sold 237,000 copies in its first week of release. Introducing the album was “Too Good At Goodbyes,” which as of Wednesday, Nov. 15 has 249,915,029 plays on Spotify.

Among those people, he trailblazed past Taylor Swift. Her highly anticipated album was leading the digital songs chart with 67,000 single sales.

Swift’s album Reputation sold more than 717,000 copies on its release day Friday, Nov. 10 according to BuzzAngle Music Data. She’s reportedly expected to debut at the top of the Billboard 200 chart next week.

She’s usually monster competition after all, but Sam Smith is on a roll career and sales wise as we now know.

He continues to grow as an artist. He already has “Song of the Year” and “Record of the Year Grammy-winning” for “Stay With Me”. It peaked at No. 2 and sold 166,000 copies in its debut week back in July 2014.
