411: November 7 may be our favorite day of the year. It’s Madame Curie’s birthday, a very important date because where’d we be without radioactivity? It also marks the 1950 opening of Junior’s Restaurant and Bakery in Brooklyn, New York. Commemorating 67 years as the home of the “World’s Most Fabulous Cheesecake,” the curdsy cake purveyor’s doing what it does best—serving up some of the best cheesecake at a very special price. With every dinner purchase, diners will receive a slice of plain, decadent cheesecake for $0.67 (regularly $7.25). Oh, yay. Looks like a diet ditch day.

411: Being a woman has many advantages and the Jewish Women’s Foundation of the Greater Palm Beaches would know. For nearly 15 years, the West Palm philanthropy has fostered female leadership and raised funding for initiatives that empower women and young girls. Recently, the foundation launched Men As Allies, a new campaign whose aim is to educate men about sexual harassment, gender inequality, and other issues women face. Chaired by Jay Bauer, husband of JWF’s founder Eileen Berman, Men As Allies hopes to create an honest dialogue about dispelling long-held masculine attitudes which will lead the way to more positive, egalitarian partnerships between men and women. The evening includes a cocktail reception and lecture by esteemed author, speaker, and philosophy professor Jeffrey Nall. While these discussions are aimed at men, women are encouraged to attend. Hurry, though. This event will sell out.

411: Pink is power but the rosy hue occasionally enjoys showing its light-hearted side. Each year, eight breast cancer survivors are selected to be Warriors in Pink by the South Florida Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. These brave women, including Eternal Warrior Nancy Brinker, represent the “one in eight” statistic meaning one out of eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. On November 9, the 2018 Warriors in Pink will be announced at Cosmo and Company. The evening will feature pink cocktails, passed hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, music and dancing, and hair and makeup stylings courtesy of Cosmo and Company. RSVPs are required, wigs are optional.

411: Statistics can save lives. In 2013, the American Diabetes Association reported 119,000 adults in Palm Beach County have some form of diabetes (Type 1 or 2). Unfortunately, 90% of these adults are unaware they even have the life-threatening disease. The good news is the condition can be reversed into remission with proper treatment and healthy lifestyle changes.

On National Diabetes Day (November 11), the Palm Healthcare Foundation and the Diabetes Coalition of Palm Beach County are offering complimentary diabetes screenings and A1c tests at the Palm Beach Outlets. Guests will also enjoy nutritious culinary demonstrations, Zumba dancing, gift raffles, store vouchers, and more. Area healthcare facilities will offer free screenings through November 30. Click here for locations.
