Consider this your personal invitation from three-time Cy Young winner, eight-time MLB All-Star, and World Series champion Pedro Martinez to hang out with him in a couple of weeks. Red Sox fans are about to be treated to one of the most special nights in baseball history this fall when the Major League Baseball Hall of Famer and former Sox pitcher comes to town with his wife Carolina to host their Second Annual Pedro Martinez Charity Gala at the Colonnade Hotel on November 3.
Boston’s legendary designated hitter Big Papi will join the Martinez’ along with current Red Sox players, including Rafael Devers, Eduardo Nunez, Sandy Leon, Fernando Abad, Christian Vazquez and Major League Baseball All-Stars Luis Severino, Aroldis Chapman, Carlos Martinez and Marcell Ozuna.
The haute evening, which will benefit thousands of children in the United States and the Dominican Republic as well as victims of Hurricane Irma, will feature a three-course dinner and a celebration of the full decade of work by the Pedro Martinez Charity, which provides assistance through holistic education, social services, and mentorship.

Tell me about this year’s gala and what a first timer can expect.
Guests at the 2nd Annual Pedro Martinez Charity Gala will be in great company, especially those who love baseball – we are expecting many of our friends from Boston, and throughout the MLB to be there including Big Papi, Jason Varitek, Orlando Cabrera, Aroldis Chapman, Carlos Martinez, Jeurys Familia, Vlad Guerrero, Eduardo Nunez, and Jose Reyes, to name a few. We’ll have an amazing three course dinner, prepared by the legendary Chef Nick Calias who makes some of the finest and freshest fish in Boston. There will also be a silent auction with once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, fun entertainment, and many more surprises. So for any fans of baseball who are looking for a fun night, and a way to help those in need – we hope you’ll join us!
Why is this year’s event going to be so special?Â
This year’s gala is incredibly special to Carolina and I, not only does it mark the 10th anniversary of The Pedro Martinez Charity, but this is also a very important year to come together to support those whose lives have been devastated by Hurricanes Irma and Maria, not only in our home country of the Dominican Republic, but throughout the Caribbean and the United States. We are proud to unite our closest friends and the city of Boston to raise money to support those who have been affected.
What made you decide to create the gala last year?
We currently have over 500 children trying to get into our programs and we decided that we need to get our Boston community involved in what we do so that together we can change children’s lives, give them an education, and help them get healthy meals and clean drinking water.
Can you talk a little about the work the Pedro Martinez Charity does?
For over 10 years we have served tens of thousands of children in the Dominican Republic and United States in providing them food, clean water, education, clothing, scholarships, and more. We are currently in the early phases of building a charter school that will support over 500+ children everyday with an excellent education that will give them the opportunity to pursue their dreams.
As a World Series champion and one of the Red Sox most beloved pitchers, how does it feel coming back to Boston?
Boston is my home, and I always love coming back home. I consider myself a Bostonian, and the love and appreciation of the fans is always so refreshing to see; it feels as though I never retired. I love Beantown.
What do you love most about the city?Â
The people: passionate, grateful and loyal.
