Where To Carb Load For The 2017 NYC Marathon

Whether you’re running in the 2017 NYC Marathon or not, there is a lot of fun to be had on race weekend. It’s the one time of year, the city collectively throws caution to the wind when it comes to carb loading. From ragu to rice bowls, restaurants around the city are offering plates full of carbs all weekend long. And rightfully, so. According to Runner’s World, carbs are stored in your body as energy and they can help runners overcome the “wall” that many hit. A proper pre-marathon carb load will not only help you run better, it’s a hall pass for excessive pasta consumption of the most delicious kind.

Here are some of the most enticing marathon menus for this year’s race.

Osteria Morini

Michael White’s Osteria Morini isn’t the only one of his restaurants offering marathon deals. Other Altamarea Group restaurants (including Nicoletta, Ai Fiori, Ristorante Morini, Vaucluse) are in on it too. They want all runners bringing their medal with them to receive 50% off any pasta dish on the menu.

The Sostathe sosta

The Sosta is offering pasta fans two ways to get their fill. A carb load special on offer November 3 & 4 gives runners and their  guests 25% off their meal with proof of registration for the Marathon. Day of the race, racers can celebrate with a free bowl of pasta and a beer when they show up with their medal.

IrvingtonIrvington_Open Kitchen

At Irvington, the pre-marathon Saturday special includes their house pappardelle pasta with braised short rib ragu and rainbow chard.

KingsideKingside - Gerber Group - Kingside Burger 1_HR

Kingside is doing double duty offering both a pre-marathon special and celebration meal after it. Also, on marathon morning the restaurant will supply “last-minute” Marathon essentials to runners  – think bagels, peanut butter, bananas and supplies like band-aids and safety pins. They had inside information on the mind of a runner when putting this all together.

General Manager Anthony Henriquez has run several marathons in his day and even coached a few. It was his idea to offer the ‘last-minute marathon essentials’  as well as the post-marathon beer and burger special ($20) because that’s always what he wants after he runs a marathon and we are sure he is not alone. Saturday’s carb load special includes housemade buccattini.

Location: 124 W. 57th Street, NY, NY 10019

The Loews RegencyLobby Lounge Window

The Loews Regency is pulling out all the stops for marathon runners. In addition to a carb loading dinner at the Regency Bar & Grill, their Relax, Run & Recover package includes everything an out-of-towner (or staycation runner) needs for the weekend. A welcome basket will be waiting full of energy drinks and snacks, a  private stretching sessions with Julien Farel Salon & Spa’s personal trainer will be scheduled and transfers to and from the race provided. It all ends with a  Sunday night post-race feast.
