Why Eddie V’s Prime Seafood Is The Real Deal

There aren’t many steakhouses where you will find live jazz music nightly set amidst one of the hautest locations in Scottsdale, but Eddie V’s delivers just that. The special occasion restaurant moved from DC Ranch to its current location in the dazzling Scottsdale Quarter nearly eight years ago downsizing from the massive open 12,000 square foot dining room to a more intimate 8,000 square foot space. The popular restaurant offered just what we were looking for on a recent visit – a much needed respite from an afternoon of shopping at the nearby boutique stores.

When you arrive, kick back in a comfortable booth, relax with the swooning jazz in the background and try a traditional gin martini, a kicked up spicy margarita or an Old Fashioned (pictured here) made with a peppery, sweet bite of handcrafted Basil Hayden that is smoke infused when it arrives.

The jumbo lump crab cake here is sautéed Maryland style and topped with a deliciously spicy chive remoulade. Being from the East Coast, we were impressed to see a nice selection of oysters from our backyard on the menu here, including Standish Shore Selects from Duxbury Bay and Salten Rock from Barnstable Harbor, Massachusetts. Other raw bar options include enormous chilled gulf shrimp served with a side of atomic horseradish (not for the weak of heart), Hawaiian yellowtail sashimi and Pacific ahi tuna tartare.

Both steak and seafood samplings are the names of the indulgent dining game here, so you can’t go wrong with either choice. The prime seafood includes everything from parmesan sole, Yellowedge grouper, steamed Chilean sea bass and seared Alaskan halibut to sauteed Norwegian salmon, swordfish broiled with jumbo lump crab cake and sauteed Georges Bank scallops.

We were in the mood for steaks so we tried the uber tender center cut filet mignon and well marbled 22-ounce bone-in ribeye, both charred to a medium rare perfection. Be sure to try some of their homemade sauces to top off your steak like the blue cheese fondue, classic Hollandaise, tarragon Béarnaise, or our favorite – cognac peppercorn creme. All of the dishes here are served a la carte, so order up some sides (large enough for 2-3 diners) to round out your dinner. Standouts include the cheesy cheddar au gratin potatoes and broccolini with lemon and garlic.

When our spot-on polished server, Kyle, recommended we save room for dessert, we were glad he did. One of the best creations (and most fun delivery) we have sampled came in the form of hot “bananas foster” butter cake, a heartwarming sampling large enough for two (but so good you might not want to share) served with a scoop of butter pecan ice cream flambéed tableside for that special “wow” effect – the perfect ending to an exceptional dining experience.
