Haute Food Happenings In Florida: September 19-23, 2017

Few of the nation’s 50 states provide hurricane relief and funding better than Florida. Here, two of our favorite foodie fundraisers who’re helping victims of hurricanes Harvey and Irma, and one holiday-inspired, celebrity chef-hosted event we look forward to attending this week.

Hurricane Relief Pop-up Fundraiser

Where: M.E.A.T. Eatery & Taproom, 980 N. Federal Hwy., Boca Raton
When: Tuesday, Sept. 19, 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
$$$: $45 per person
411: When it comes to getting tough on humanity-inflicting issues like child hunger, M.E.A.T.’s co-owner and executive chef George Patti is a big softy. So it was no surprise when we heard Patti, who is also a major player in Palm Beach’s charity food circuit, was hosting gastrocolic fundraiser to raise monies for the millions of Harvey and Irma hurricane survivors who’ve lost power, their possessions, and even their homes. Hosted in partnership with the American Fine Wine Competition, the event will present comfort dishes like meatballs with chimichurri aioli and the spiky-haired toque’s signature sliders, as well as unlimited pours from Terlato, Rocca Grigsby, Krug, Von Strasser, and other top-tier wineries.

Monies from tickets sales along with a raffle and Chinese auction, will be donated to the Boca Raton Firefighter & Paramedic Benevolent Fund, Inc. and the Greater Houston Community Foundation. Bottled water, canned goods, clothing, and other requisite supplies are most appreciated and will be delivered to the Florida Keys this Friday.

Holiday Entertaining with Chef Eric Baker

Where: Shoppe561, 1905 S. Dixie Hwy., West Palm Beach
When: Thursday, Sept. 21, 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
$$$: $45 per person, purchase tickets HERE
411: Aside from unwrapping reindeer-delivered gifts, executive chef Eric Baker’s fondest holiday-past memories were sitting down at the family table to dine on his grandmother Mazie’s traditional, homemade dishes. With holidays like Yom Kippur weeks away, the French-trained toque will be making two of his grandmother’s signature recipes, a fork-tender, sweet and sour brisket and a flaky spinach pie. Be ready: Baker also plans to get audience members involved as sous chefs.

No holiday meal’s complete without a festive tipple so Mazie’s general manager and sommelier Jason and Sandra Lakow have designed a craft cocktail with white whisky, apple juice, and muddled cranberry. It’s not like the cranberry juice we drank in school, says Baker. We’ll toast to that.

Burger & Craft Beer Bash

Where: Breeze Ocean Kitchen at Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa, Manalapan
When: Saturday, Sept. 23, 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
$$$: $55 per person, purchase tickets HERE
411: If burger battles seem a bit dry and overdone, then we suggest grabbing your appetite and giving Eau Palm Beach’s second annual Burger & Craft Beer Bash a try. Here, chefs from each of the beachfront property’s four dining rooms—Angle, Breeze Ocean Kitchen, Stir, and Temple Orange Mediterranean Bistro—will create epic burgers-in-paradise using myriad ingredients too secret to spill. We have learned one chef will be incorporating ample amounts of Petrosian caviar while another’s filling ground sirloin and short rib patties with pulled pork then topping them with white cheddar, peppered bacon, maple barbecue sauce, and Funky Buddha Pineapple Beach Beer onion rings. Yowza! Twisted Trunk, Due South, Funky Buddha, and other local breweries will be pouring copious amounts of craft beers and ales. Attendees are encouraged to cast their vote for “Best Burger,” “Best Beer,” and “Best Pairing.”

On an altruistic note, the property will be donating a portion of the event’s proceeds to Volunteer Florida, the State of Florida’s official fund that assists communities during times of disaster.
