On the line this year is a purse of $8,750,000 (of which $1,575,000 goes to the winner) as all of the action gets underway today at 2:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on the GOLF Channel and NBC.

This year’s event, formerly known as the Deutsche Bank Championship, has taken on a new title: the Dell Technologies Championship. The Dell Technologies Championship was originally introduced in 2003 as the PGA TOUR returned to the Boston market for the first time since the last New England Classic was held in 1998. With the introduction of the FedExCup in 2007, the tournament was elevated to its current position as the second FedExCup Playoffs event.

The Dell Technologies Championship is the second of four events of the FedExCup Playoffs for the 11th consecutive season since the Playoffs were introduced in 2007. Players in the top half of the 100-player field will be looking to move up, jockeying for the coveted top-five position heading to the TOUR Championship; those near the bottom need enough points to survive to the next event at the BMW Championship (70 players).

“This year, we have something for everyone,” said Rich Brady, executive director for the Dell Technologies Championship. “New this year are four food trucks (The Cod Squad, The Roving Lunchbox, Sweet Tomatoes Pies and Whoopie Pie Wagon) that will be located in the Fan Zone, along with a Grey Goose lounge and William Hill WIne Lounge. Ruth’s Chris will also be here serving up steak sandwiches and lobster rolls. Boston fans are passionate about their sports and this event gets some of the best players on the PGA Tour. It’s a really big event because it’s a playoff event and we are lucky to have them here.”
