Weekend Roundup: Florals Celebrated at Salvation Army Lunch; Green Music Gala

On Wednesday, August 2nd, the Salvation Army hosted its 13th annual Flower Power Luncheon and Design Show. The highlight of the event was a floral design presentation by renowned floral designer John James with television reporter Leigh Martinez acting as hostess. The proceeds from the luncheon benefit the Salvation Army’s back to school programming. Members of the mayor’s office where in attendance as were the commander of the SFPD, Richard Coreia and Nick Smith, a senior executive at the Golden State Warriors.

On Thursday, August 3, hundreds of PYTs gathered at a Bohemian Bubbles Garden Party hosted by the Fairmont and Veuve Clicquot in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love. Guests were asked to dress in their best hippie chic attire and many showed up in stylish flower crowns and bell bottoms. There were lawn gowns, festive bites, and flowing bubbly.

Up in wine country at Sonoma State University, the Green Music Center celebrated its fifth summer of programing at Weill Hall and Lawn on Friday, August 4. The event started with a champagne reception where members of the Santa Rosa Symphony Youth Orchestra serenaded the crowd. The gala concert started at 7:30 pm and featured jazz icon Diana Krall. After the concert, guests headed to Prelude restaurant for a dinner that included an assortment of local wines (like Black Kite Cellars and Iron Horse Estates) and a delectable cheese course with local cheese. Notable attendees include Sako and Bill Fisher, Michelle Mercer, and Bruce Gordon.
