Weekend Roundup: Where San Franciscans are Spending the Summer

During July and August, many of San Francisco’s most sophisticated denizens head out of town. A quick glance at society photographer Drew Altizer’s website and it’s obvious that nothing is happening. When it comes to galas and other charitable events, summer is the off season. Plus, the city’s weather is notoriously chilly—there is not a single San Franciscan who doesn’t think of Mark Twain’s infamous quote (“The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.) at least once during the windy and cold break. If there was ever a time to skip town, it’s now. So just where is everyone spending their break? Find out below.

Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla, headed to Alaska where they went canoeing. The trip was a part of Zuck’s 2017 New Year’s resolution: to meet people in every state of America by the end of the year.

Ayesha and Stephen Curry went to the beach in Turks and Caicos with a group of friends and siblings for a little fun in the sun. Afterward they went to the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina for a wedding where the Warriors star was sporting a new hair style.

The Trainas—including Alexis and Trevor and Katie and Todd—family is back east in Newport, Rhode Island. They always spend the summer at Dede Wilsey’s mother, Ruth (who is 99 years old) house.


Allison Speer is in Sun Valley, Idaho where she is playing golf, admiring flowers, and attending chic soirees.

Sobia Shaikh and her family are traveling around Europe. First they went to Portugal and now they are in Spain.
