The Museum of Contemporary Art’s exhibition, Takashi Murakami: The Octopus Eats Its Own Leg, runs through September 24, but the museum isn’t the only spot to marvel at the renowned Japanese artist’s masterpieces this summer. Two local hotels will each showcase their own tributes to the artists in tandem with the exhibit.

First up is the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel, which has recreated the logo for the MCA-exhibit–a pink octopus Murakami designed specifically for the Chicago show in Murakami’s signature “Superflat” style–on the floor of the space’s former swimming area located on the first floor of the hotel. The CAA will also showcase iconic toys from Murakami’s commercial catalog, on display in the fine art cases which connect the hotel’s drawing room and game room. The exhibit will run through Monday, July 31.

The Thompson Hotel announced its own Murakami tribute this week: the hotel’s lobby will play host to two original, signed works from the artist, variations of prints that are part of the MCA exhibit. The display opens at Thompson Chicago tomorrow, June 30 and will run through the duration of the museum show. For hotel guests who are in town for the exhibit, the Thompson has also created a custom Murakami Experience package, which includes a discounted stay and exhibition tickets, a complimentary Murakami poster, and a private screen-printing class at the Hyde Park Art Center.
