Quick Hits: La Mar’s Benefit Dinner; Humphry Slocombe’s Rosé All Day

A spread of dishes at La Mar

Internationally acclaimed Peruvian chef Gaston Acurio will be in town tomorrow for a special benefit dinner at his waterfront restaurant La Mar. If you don’t have plans, we highly recommend getting a ticket to the exclusive once-in-a-lifetime event. Acurio will prepare a six-course meal alongside his right hand man, the executive chef at La Mar, Victoriano Lopez. The evening begins with a cocktail reception at 6:30 pm with appetizers and live Latin music. The dinner is part of a fundraising tour for Curio’s Peruvian-based culinary school for underprivileged students. This week, Acurio has already been to Miami and Chicago hosting similar events. All proceeds will be donated to the Pachacútec Culinary Institute in Pachacútec, Peru, Acurio’s school which was founded in 2007. Not only does the school teach the younger generation how to cook, but they also learn to speak English.

A scoop of Rosé All Day

Another not to be missed culinary happening? Humphry Slocombe’s release of Rosé All Day, a new limited-edition sherbet. The special flavor is a collaboration between the ice cream makers and Domaine Carneros. Humphry Slocombe combines Domaine Carneros Brut Rosé with sweet cream to make an incredible delicious, tart, treat. We’ve tasted the ice cream and it is to die for. In a statement, Humphry Slocombe co-founder and chef Jake Godby says, “pink bubbles make everything better, and Rosé All Day is like summer in a cup or cone.” Domaine Carneros’s CEO and winemaker, Eileen Crane, adds, “If I didn’t make bubbles, I would make ice cream.” The rosé flavor is available at both Humphry Slocombe locations in the Mission and at the Ferry Building and will stay on the menu through the summer (while supplies last).

The gorgeous view at Cade

Up in wine country, two of our favorite vintners have exciting news. The PlumpJack Group has opened their recently acquired 82-acre Howell Mountain vineyard, complete with winemaking facility and hospitality center. It’s an extension of the Cade Estate brand and consists of 74 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, three acres of Sauvignon Blanc, three and a half acres of Malbec, and one acre of Petit Verdot. In other news, Jean-Charles Boisset has purchased the 55-acre Bartolucci-Stice Vineyard in St. Helena. It will be an extension of Raymond Vineyards which is adjacent to the Bartolucci property. It has 47 acres planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Merlot.

Purses, sunglasses, and more will be on sale at the Gilt event

This weekend, the Gilt Group is hosting a massive sample sale on June 16 and 17.
