Weekend Update: Inside E3 2017 + the XBox X One Announced

Gaming enthusiasts wait with baited breath for E3—an annual expo for computer, video and mobile games and related products—each year. For three days, leading-edge companies, groundbreaking new technologies and never-before-seen products are showcased at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Here are the best releases and everything you might have missed from E3 2017. 

NINTENDO

Photo Credit: Michael Kovac/Getty Images for Nintendo Celebrities such as Chris Hardwick and wife Lydia Hearst, Zelda Williams, Jack Black, Scott Porter and Jon Heder headed to Nintendo’s booth to check out an exclusive preview of the new software titles set to launch on the Nintendo Switch system, including Super Mario Odyssey (the first 3D sandbox-style Mario adventure in more than 15 years with a release date of Oct. 27), Splatoon 2, ARMS and Pokkén Tournament DX (the first Pokémon title for Nintendo Switch), throughout this year. Other announced titles included Rocket League for Switch and Metroid: Samus Returns for 3DS.

Microsoft officially announced that it’s “Project Scorpio” will be named “Xbox One X” and that it will go on sale Nov. 7 for $499. With 40% more power than any other console, users will experience immersive true 4K gaming. Other announcements include Sea of Thieves,The Artful Escape and Middle Earth: Shadow of War; the Oct. 3 launch of Forza 7; the Nov. 7 launch of Crackdown 3; and Anthem, the new IP from BioWare, will be released in the fall of 2018. To celebrate the announcement, Team Coco and Xbox hosted an exclusive gaming event at The Microsoft Lounge in Venice, which was attended by Zachary Levi, Ashley Rickards, Scott Porter and Rob Buckley, among others.  

SONY

 

Sony made several announcements at E3, including PlayLink, which creates social gaming that everyone can enjoy by combining mobile and console gaming and the early 2018 release date of God of War. 

ELECTRONIC ARTS

EA announced that its Madden 18 has received its first-ever playable story mode and BioWare’s new IP, which is called Anthem, a co-op action game named “A Way Out.”

BETHESDA

 

Bethesda announced its Oct. 27 release date of Wolfenstein II; the Oct. 13 release date of The Evil Within 2; and that Fallout 4 VT and Doom VFR will both be released later this year.

UBISOFT

UBISOFT had some major news at E3 including that Beyond Good and Evil 2 are finally in the works; that Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is coming to Nintendo Switch; the Oct. 27 release of Assassin’s Creed Origins; and the stand-alone Skull & Bones.
