The Hamptons social season kicked off over Memorial Day weekend with a flurry of events. Among the gatherings drawing top East End names was the
“A Taste of Wine” cocktail party for The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF). The event served as a prelude to the organization’s Eighth Annual Unconditional Love Gala, which will be held on July 8th, 2017. The party was hosted by board president Jonathan McCann and honorary chair Jean Shafiroff, one of this year’s gala honorees, at the Southampton Historical Museum, Shafiroff and McCann welcomed guests including Ellen and Chuck Scarborough, Southampton’s Mayor Mark Epley and his wife Marianne, Dolly Lenz, Mary Ann Assiff, Anthony Coron, Wendy Diamond, Victor de Souza, Barbara McEntee, Kate McEntee, Brigid Fitzgerald, Dawne Marie Grannum, Dr. and Mrs. Steven Greenberg, Sara Johnson Kaplan, Unconditional Love gala co-Chair Michael Katz, Raya and Cliff Knight,, Aniik Libby, Dr. Teresa Meekins, William Nicolai, Valarie Rooks, SASF executive director Jerry Rosenthal and his wife Cionna Rosenthal, Diane Rulnik, Elizabeth Shafiroff, Martin Shafiroff, Dr. Steven Schutzer, and Wendy Wagner.
During the event board president McCann thanked everyone for attending, In his remarks he reminded everyone that, “The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation relies solely upon donations from the public. ” He stressed “the need to find homes for the ‘long-term”dogs who are just as capable of offering unconditional love as the puppies that you are meeting today.” As the only open-admissions animal welfare organization in Southampton, SASF provides vitall adoption, medical care, behavior training and education services. One hundred percent of proceeds for the upcoming gala go to helping the Foundation.
Guests were provided with tasting stations with vegetarian appetizers from Schmidt Bros Produce. They also interacted with a number of the Foundation’s cats and dogs who are up for adoption. The next event for the group is the Unconditional Love Gala on Saturday, July 8, when Jean Shafiroff and Sony Schotland will be honored. Cocktails are at 6:30pm and dinner at 7:30pm.
