While driving a high-performance sports car like the Huracán is an experience by itself, the Waldorf Astoria adds to this. Not because of the comfort and luxury you get to enjoy before and after your ride, but more so because of the location. Most Waldorf Astoria premises are located in the world’s most magnificent cities, and that might not be the most obvious place to drive a car like the Lamborghini Huracán. Most of the time you get to experience a car like this on a closed track, or a remote mountain road, while the big cities are far more its natural habitat, but Waldorf Astoria creates Unforgettable Experiences at each of their 25 worldwide luxury properties.
We took a drive from Waldorf Astoria’s magnificent Chicago location, and where treated the moment we left on an experience you don’t get on a track: the roar of the V10 engine bounced back from the tall buildings surrounding us, causing smiling faces in, as well as outside the car.
The experience itself is very casual. A pre-drive briefing includes in short the history of Lamborghini as well as the background of the car itself. Then it is up to you to pick the Huracán you like the most and get comfortable behind the wheel. One of Lamborghini’s professional GT3 drivers will give you a brief instruction on how to operate the car, and off you go!
In each city, Waldorf Astoria and Lamborghini have set out a route that shows you not only some beautiful highlights but also incorporates some roads on which you can truly experience the performance and the precision that the Huracán offers. It comes very close to the feeling of owning a Huracán, without actually owning one…..yet.
In Chicago, the Huracán delighted with supercar performance once we reached “Lake Shore Drive,” a four-lane highway separating the city from Lake Michigan, but is surprisingly easy to handle in the city traffic.
After the exciting drive, it is great to realize that your drive might be over, but your stay isn’t. The Lamborghini Lounge offers you the chance to relax after your ride, enjoy refreshments, and talk with fellow drivers (or of course Lamborghini’s GT3 race car driver) about the experience. While the seats of the Huracán are surprisingly comfortable, there are plenty of other excuses one can think of to also book a spa treatment after the drive, followed by maybe a cocktail and dinner at the magnificent on-premises restaurant, winding down the day!
