Rolls-Royce “Sweptail”: Back To The Future Of Ultimate Bespoke Cars

Throughout its existence, Rolls-Royce has been known as “the best car in the world,” but being the best is as much about quality and finish, as it is about personal experience. In the early days of Rolls-Royce history, personal was very personal, with the marque delivering the bare chassis and engine to a coachbuilder of your choosing, who would create the body and interior. The passing of time has made this practice mostly goes out of style and practice, but Rolls-Royce is reinstating it as the ultimate experience of luxury.

The first step the marque took to restore this was with the 103EX Vision Vehicle. It was in a way “back to the future” allowing their customers to have a bespoke Rolls-Royce created for them. Given the expertise of Rolls-Royce, and the coachbuilding craftsmanship that they have always nurtured within their facility, they can take this almost to the extreme with very demanding projects such as the “Sweptail.”

Introduced at the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza at Villa d’Este, the “Sweptail” was the vision of a Rolls-Royce connoisseur, who was inspired by the Rolls-Royces from the 1920’s who featured such a design. He reimagined it in a modern day creation and took his vision to Rolls-Royce.

Rolls-Royce took on the challenge of making his vision into the stunning Coupé that was introduced last weekend. The design is a merger between modern and vintage styling elements, without turning into retro. While from the outside the distinct contrast of that regal front, dominated by the world’s most famous grille, with that graceful swept-tail is the eyecatcher, on the inside it is the enormous amounts of natural light that take your breath away. Room is ample in this two person coupé, but it looks even more spacious thanks to the panoramic glass roof that highlights the handcrafted interior. Here the grandeur continues, created by polished Macassar Ebony and open-pore Paldao wood, and combined with the finest leathers in contrasting light Moccasin and Dark Spice.

While the “Sweptail” is breathtakingly beautiful, our opinion, in fact, doesn’t matter, as this is a very private vision of what the ultimate Rolls-Royce should look like, which we are simply lucky to be shown. At the same time, just as the 103EX Vision Vehicle, it will without a doubt inspire other clients to turn their automotive dreams into a Rolls-Royce reality!
