Last weekend at the Meals on Wheels 30th anniversary gala, an unprecedented $3.2 million was raised to support the charity, which provides meals to Bay Area senior citizens. The income generated at the gala will allow 640,000 meals to be prepped and delivered to seniors in San Francisco. 200 of the region’s best chefs and vintners participated in creating a three-course meal for 1,000 guests. It was a phenomenal night with top auction lots including a dinner for six prepared by Nancy Oakes and Gerald Hirigoyen at a luxury villa in Napa and a dinner for eight in Sonoma at Hamel Family Wines prepared by Stuart Brioza, Ravi Kapur, and Staffan Terje.
Although the San Francisco Ballet company ended its season in early May, there is still a chance to enjoy the ballet in action. Next week is the school’s student showcase performance series. There are three shows to choose from, all which take place at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater: Wednesday, Mary 31 at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, June 1 at 6 p.m., and Friday, June 2 at 7:30 p.m. Thursday’s earlier performance is followed with a special dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel. It’s a wonderful way to experience the ballet’s emerging young talents.
