Soho House founder Nick Jones has opened the latest outpost of his super-exclusive, unbelievably trendy members-only club on the exclusive mile-long stretch of sand known as Carbon Beach or “Billionaire’s Beach” in the former Nikita space adjacent to Nobu Malibu and, since its 2016 opening, the spot has become the hottest on the west side. Even if you’re a Soho House member already, it doesn’t mean you’ll gain access to this Soho House; according to the Hollywood Reporter, there’s going to be an entirely different vetting process; Malibu locales will ultimately have a decision in deciding who can stay, and who should go. The members who are approved access, will be able to enjoy added perks like hiking through the vineyards of Saddlerock Ranch, foraging at Point Dume and a discussion about solar energy and “postmodern environmentalism” with a sustainable energy consultant. Other new features of the 10,000 square foot club include hidden nooks and crannies with a beachy vibe and loads of contemporary art, ocean views, a meat and seafood-heavy all-day dining menu and a sitting room.

The Jonathan Club was first established in 1894 as a political group, and segued into a social club just one year later. Many notable Club members (also known as Jonathans) have shaped the destiny of Southern California such as Edward Dickson and Ernest Moore, who conceived the idea of UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) over lunch in the fall of 1917. There are, in fact, two Jonathan Clubs in Los Angeles—one by the beach and the one we've chosen to highlight, its 'Town Club.' Inside this plush members-only den, you'll find European Renaissance décor, plush furnishings and a rooftop escape with the glittering L.A. skyline at your disposal. The Magic Castle, otherwise known as the clubhouse of the Academy of Magical Arts, is a private, members-only club where magic happens. Who hasn't heard of Soho House? It seems like the every celebrity under the stars has dined here, while every truly chic event in Los Angeles has been hosted here. Its members, however, enjoy an even more memorable experience. There is a screening room, club bar, rooftop terrace, all manner of meals, and all manner of privacy. Mind you, there is an incredibly lengthy process to become a member, and not everyone is guaranteed. Each applicant must be nominated by two existing members who can belong to any of the Houses, then have to fill out a membership form which will be reviewed by the appropriate club’s Membership Committee, who meet approximately every three months. Those applicants selected to become members following each meeting are notified via email. Those who are not immediately successful will be added to a waiting list and reviewed at each follow-up meeting. For pure exclusivity alone, a membership at Soho House feels like finding Willy Wonka's golden ticket.
