Haute Top 5: Best Art Galleries in Boston 2017

You might not expect to find an art gallery tucked among the shops of Newbury Street, but Galerie d’Orsay’s collection here stands out with its six centuries of art featuring works by old master, impressionist and modern artists. This haute gallery houses some exclusive painting and sculptures from the 16th to 21st centuries. Past exhibitions include D'Orsay & D'Orsay: A New Collection Inspired by their Namesake and Muse, the Musée d’Orsay, Paris; ArtWeek Boston - "Personalizing Art for Your Home" and Color & Cadence: Post-Impressionist Paintings by Samir Sammoun. The gallery also offers in-home consultation, custom framing, delivery, installation and appraisals.

The fourth floor studio might be missed if you are walking by, but those photography aficionados in the know come here for a look at some of the city's most impressive collection of 19th and 20th century and contemporary fine art photography. This haute gallery started out with exhibitions of Diane Arbus, Annie Leibovitz, Sally Mann, and Hiroshi Sugimoto. Today, it showcases contemporary artists with international exposure while exhibiting works by recognized masters such as Ansel Adams, Helen Levitt, and Irving Penn. The Gallery also collaborates with Ars Libri, a rare book dealer at 500 Harrison Avenue, to host satellite installations in their South End bookstore.

This Beacon Hill gallery isn't exactly a secret. The haute neighborhood location hosts an evening of art and music the first Friday of the month. They work with local artists and are committed to hosting charitable events like the one this month where a portion of the proceeds from all sales of paintings and CDs sold benefited everything matters film. The gallery itself hosts landscape paintings by Zoe Arguello, contemporary realistic pieces by Patrick Anderson, along with pieces by Anne Foresman and multidisciplinary artist Hannah Groudas.
