Boston does not offer your typical happy hour where drinks are discounted almost as much as the food specials. Unfortunately, Massachusetts did away with that many years ago, but restaurants are still permitted to offer pre-dinner bites at specialty prices. From mini grilled burgers to crab cake sliders, here’s a look at five of the best happy hours in Boston.

1 Stella

Stella
In the South End, Stella offers pre-theater specials served every night from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Snacks include crudo misto, crispy fried artichoke hearts and a Caesar salad while heartier dishes include Bolognese with tagliatelle pasta; simply prepared spaghetti with toasted garlic, olive oil and parmesan cheese as well as pork Milanese.

2 Minibar

Minibar
Whether you are in the area after spending an afternoon of haute shopping at Copley Place or are just looking to fuel up with an after-work cocktail and a bite for the commute home, Minibar has just what you need. Stop by this high energy haute spot tucked inside the Copley Square Hotel Monday through Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. for $2 grilled New England beef burgers that taste even better when paired with a local microbrew.

3 Ruth's Chris Steak House

Ruth's Chris
Carnivores congregate at Old City Hall near Downtown Crossing for some of the best happy hour deals in town. Offered weekdays (Sundays as well) from 4 to 6:30 p.m., the haute bites menu here includes a prime burger with fries; honey-soy marinated tenderloin skewer salad; crab BLT with zucchini fries and a juicy tenderloin steak sandwich topped with house-made béarnaise sauce. If you prefer lighter fare, try the seared ahi tuna or spicy shrimp that will hold you over until dinnertime.

4 Haru

Haru
Snack on pork buns, chicken satay, grilled spare ribs and blue crab and corn fritters while sipping on a specialty cocktail (a saketini perhaps?) at Haru's Prudential Center location. Offered weekdays from 3 to 7:00 p.m. and 10 p.m. to close as well as on Saturdays from 3 to 6 p.m., the happy hour menu is available only at the bar and sushi bar.

5 The Oceanaire

The Oceanaire Seafood Room
Happy Hour at The Oceanaire is better known as the "Admiral's Hour" where blackened fish tacos, buffalo shrimp and parmesan truffle fries are offered on the specialty menu weekdays from 4 to 7 p.m. and again Monday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to closing. Other specialty dishes include tuna tartare with crispy wontons, a fresh oyster trio and fried calamari. Our favorites include grilled oysters, crab cake sliders and filet mignon sliders topped with caramelized onions and blue cheese butter.
