1 Destroyer

In this 16-seat space within the Hayden Tract, you'll find Destroyer, a restaurant from Jordan Kahn (he of Red Medicine, French Laundry, Per Se, Alinea and Michael Mina), which absolutely, well, DESTROYS its surrounding competition. The breakfast menu at this breakfast and lunch only spot changes constantly, but expect to find elevated fare like raw oatmea with ,almond milk, red currant and vanilla; Icelandic rye bread served with cultured butter and preserves; and avocado confit with toasted country bread.

2 Eggslut

What do you get at Eggslut? Hm...let us have a think. Eggslut, like its name implies, is a chef driven, gourmet food concept inspired by a true love for eggs. The menu is a balance of comfort and innovation, celebrating food that appeals to both novice and extreme foodie through classic comfort fare with a twist, all encompassing eggs. Their breakfast sandwiches are game-changers. Our favorite fare here includes the Fairfax: cage-free soft scrambled eggs and chives, cheddar cheese, caramelized onions and sriracha mayo in a warm brioche bun and Slut: cage-free coddled egg on top of a smooth potato purée, poached in a glass jar, topped with gray salt and chives, served with slices of baguette. Make sure not to miss the absolutely amazing buttermilk biscuit.

3 Gjusta

If you see a flock of beautiful people/hipsters heading into a nondescript warehouse-style spot in Venice, you'll know you've hit the right spot: Gjusta, Travis Lett's sister restaurant to his Venice hotspot, Gjelina. You'll find rows and rows of sweet breakfast treats like chocolate croissants, baklava and fruit galettes, as well as housemade breads. Our breakfast recommendations at this hot spot include the bialy egg: a poppy & onion bialy, merguez, arugula, gruyere and harissa, and the lox hash: poached eggs, creme fraiche, horse radish and chives.

4 RĂ©publique

Walter Manzke's stunning La Brea eatery serves up some serious L.A. history with its absolutely scrumptious morning fare (the building, which was built in 1929, was first Charlie Chaplin's office before transforming into the now-shuttered iconic L.A. eatery Campanile). Here, in this beautiful setting, you'll find fresh juices (the purple Juice—carrot, beet, pomegranate, ginger and mint—is our favorite) and decadent items like Ricotta Toast—sourdough toast, sheep's milk ricotta de pecora, citrus marmalade, oro blanco and hazelnuts—and Chia Seed Pudding—coconut cream, almond milk, seasonal citrus, berries, honey and almonds. Make sure to try out the chef's specialty: his Walter's Favorite includes coddled farm egg, baguette, french butter and jam, served with orange juice and fresh brewed coffee.

5 Sqirl

Hidden behind a flowering Pink Tabebuia tree on the edge of Los Angeles’ Silver Lake neighborhood, you will find Sqirl, Jessica Koslow's first all-day eatery that serves up some seriously amazing breakfast fare. Sqirl is famous for its rice bowls (yes, for breakfast), jams and toasts: all fare is market-driven, re-imagined classics and prepared in a way you could hardly begin to imagine, but will love, love, love all the same. Depending on the season, you might find Gravenstein Apple Butter, Moro Blood Orange Marmalade, Wild Boysenberry, or a Blenheim Apricot preserve to take home in a jar or, if you prefer, spread over a slab of Brioche toast.Cap your meal with house-made almond milk, prepared in a cappuccino, an Alishan tea from purveyor Floating Tea Leaves, a turmeric tonic, a fresh pressed blood orange juice, or a rhubarb lemonade.
