Whether you have an early morning sweet tooth craving or prefer a heartier way to start the day, we have rounded up some of the best places for the perfect breakfast indulgence. From an Irish breakfast skillet to pancakes that would make Elvis proud, here’s a look at five haute spots for breakfast in Boston.

1 Trident Booksellers & Cafe

Trident Booksellers and Cafe
You might not expect to find a cozy little spot that serves breakfast all day tucked into a bookstore on Newbury Street, but that's just what Trident Booksellers & Cafe offers. From crepes with prosciutto, asparagus, tomatoes and parmesan and eggs served every way imaginable (we prefer ours topped with hollandaise) to malted Belgian waffles, French toast made with challah bread and huevos rancheros with tomatillo ranchero sauce, jack cheese and refried beans, the breakfast menu here is one of the most varied in the city. The laid back vibe allowing diners to linger over a raspberry mimosa, Vermont maple latte or bubble tea while reading a magazine from the indie bookshop are added bonuses.

2 The Paramount

The Paramount
Sure, you can get all of the traditional staples like buttermilk pancakes or an egg and cheese sandwich at this Beacon Hill haute spot, but why not go for the good stuff like an order of Texas style French toast, apple pancakes or a Spanish omelet topped with pico de gallo. This haute spot located just steps from the State House has been a politico favorite for its healthier options like the quinoa coconut breakfast bowl with yogurt and fresh berries; honey and brown sugar oatmeal and egg white omelets.

3 The Friendly Toast

The Friendly Toast
The quirky little breakfast spot that first made a name for itself in New Hampshire before planting its roots in Massachusetts quickly gained quite a following. Whether you come here at 7 a.m. or 2 a.m., you can enjoy breakfast dishes here all day, every day. Specialties include warm biscuits topped with white pepper gravy; a “monster” breakfast complete with pancakes (or French toast), two eggs, home fries and a choice of meat; and a plate of what would have been Elvis’ favorite “King cakes” -banana, chocolate chip and peanut butter pancakes topped with whipped cream.

4 North 26 Restaurant and Bar

North 26 Restaurant & Bar
You would be hard pressed not to find a breakfast you will fall in love with at North 26. Located inside the Millennium Bostonian Hotel just across from Faneuil Hall and just steps from the North End, the haute spot gets early risers started off with some light fare like the granola parfait, steel cut Irish oatmeal and European continental complete with “toast charcuterie.” We recommend their specialty dishes like the Maine lobster omelet filled with Vermont goat cheese, smoked salmon Benedict, brioche French toast and hearty Irish skillet filled with fried eggs, Irish bacon, baked beans, black pudding and tomato jam. For the ultimate indulgence, try the filet mignon and farm eggs.

5 North Street Grille

North Street Grille
Strawberry and Nutella French toast sticks, corned beef hash Benedict and cranberry walnut pancakes are just a few unusual finds you will see on the breakfast menu at the North Street Grille. The popular North End restaurant dishes out enormous egg plates filled with crispy home fries and eggs Bendict served every way imaginable (think Oscar, Florentine, crab cake, lobster, short rib, pulled pork, asparagus and prosciutto and corned beef hash, to name a few). Pair it up with a morning libation like a blood orange limoncello mimosa, peach bellini, blueberry muffin martini or grapefruit mojito to get your day started off right.
