Dance, art, music, and food collide next Tuesday, March 21 at San Francisco Ballet’s Sensorium. At the one-night-only event, the War Memorial Opera House will be transformed into an interactive museum and nightclub. The doors open at 7:30 p.m. and ballet lovers have an hour to check out a line architectural installation by Abruzzo Bodziak, chat with dancers, and view an art and fashion collaboration by Lan Jaenicke. At 8:30, the show begins with members of the repertory company performing Liam Scarlett’s Fearful Symmetries and Balanchine’s Diamonds. Afterward, DJ Chris Clouse and DJ Will Magid will start a rollicking dance party.
Tomorrow the Napa Valley Wine Train is hosting its 7th-annual Pride Ride. The event begins at 5 p.m. and features wine country’s most prominent LGBT winemakers and experts. They will guide guests through a wine-paired meal prepared by chef Donald Young. Pennsylvania State Representative Brian Sims, the first openly gay elected legislator in the state’s history, is the honorable host. The three-hour experience concludes with an after party at the train station with Mistress of Ceremonies Daft-née Gesundheit.
The Presidio Picnic is back for its 5th season this Sunday, March 19. Every weekend it takes place on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. through October. Off the Grid supplies the food vendors and this year’s lineup includes Ocean Oyster Company, Del Poppolo, Fine & Rare, Sam’s Chowder, and The Whole Beast. Rye on the Road is once again providing cocktails, beer, and wine. New this year: groups of ten or more can preorder their food.

We’re sad to report that one of San Francisco’s notable philanthropic figures, Charlot Malin, has passed away. Malin died of a sudden illness on Monday, March 13. She was the director of design for Troon Pacific Inc., an active member of the San Francisco Opera Guild, where she served as president from 2014 to 2016, and a chair at the SFMOMA from 2012 to 2015. “Her passing leaves a huge void in the San Francisco cultural community,” Neal Benezra, Director of SFMOMA, said in a statement released to press. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the Charlot D. Malin San Francisco Opera Guild Education Fund or the Charlot D. Malin Commemorative Fund at the Voss Foundation.
