Quick Hits Boston: A Look at Some Haute Happenings

Even though we received a nor’easter in Boston yesterday, the social scene here just keeps getting hotter. Here’s a look at some of this week’s haute happenings to look forward to.

Today, Lufthansa introduces its new long-haul aircraft – the Airbus A350-900 – to Boston. Flight LH 424 departed from Munich at 3:46 p.m. local time and is scheduled to arrive at Boston Logan International Airport at 7:35 p.m. this evening. Eastbound flight LH 425 will depart Boston at 9:30 p.m. and is scheduled to land back in Munich at 9:50 a.m. tomorrow. (Lufthansa will operate the A350 on the Munich-Boston route seven days a week).

Iceland Naturally is bringing back their annual Taste of Iceland festival to Boston tomorrow running through Monday. Now is your chance to sample some of the country’s best flavors and get a taste of their culture. This year’s five-day event features an Icelandic dinner paired with Reyka Vodka prepared by Icelandic chef Siggi Helga from Grillið restaurant at The Merchant on Friday night; the Reykjavik Calling Concert at The Middle East; screenings of Icelandic short films at The Brattle Theatre; an Icelandic literature presentation by the First Lady of Iceland at WBUR; and a discussion of Icelandic visual arts at The Kingston Gallery at SoWa.

Going to the doctor’s office just got a whole lot easier thanks to One Medical, which has officially opened its second Boston location in Copley Square (the other is in Government Center). You can request a visit with a board-certified primary care physician through an app, discuss medical conditions, book same day visits or schedule on-site lab testing. Their exclusive membership allows patients to see a doctor when and where they want.

On Friday night, Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House in the Seaport District will pair up with Mitchers Bourbon to create a special four-course bourbon dinner. Michter’s regional director, Kenny Ng, will be on hand to discuss the flavors and pairings for this haute event. Dishes include braised short rib, smoked salmon with caper cream cheese and a bourbon glazed double cut pork chop. (The restaurant is also now offering lunch weekdays).

Massachusetts Fallen Heroes just announced country artists Tyler Farr (best known for his #1 platinum-selling title-track “Redneck Crazy” and gold-certified hit “Whiskey in my Water”) and Eric Paslay will headline this year’s Patriot Fest at Lawn on D on Saturday, May 20, 2017. The show will begin at 4 p.m. and will also feature local musicians like Dalton and The Sheriffs and Louie Bello. Patriot Fest kicks off Massachusetts Fallen Heroes’ annual Patriot Week, a 10-day series of events from May 20-29, honoring the fallen, Gold Star families and local veterans. Last year, Mass Fallen Heroes created Patriot Week to promote awareness of the honor, service and sacrifice of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. (This past May, they unveiled a public memorial in Boston’s Seaport Common in commemoration of the fallen who fought in the Global War on Terrorism following September 2001).
