Not only does 15 Romolo shake up some of the best cocktails in town, but this North Beach standby also serves food daily until 1:30 a.m. Unlike some bars that serve food merely to soak up the booze, the cooks in Romolo’s kitchen take their job very seriously. Where else can you order a perfectly crafted Manhattan alongside caramelized leek croquettes, grilled octopus with buttered potatoes, and paella with housemade linguica sausage at 1 a.m.? No where! The folks at 15 Romolo are crazy about sherry, so if you’re into Spanish fortified wine, take note: every menu item has a recommended sherry pairing.

Another late night hot spot in North Beach? Tosca Cafe. The sensational eatery from one of New York’s hottest restaurant couples, Ken Friedman and April Bloomfield, is an SF institution. It was founded in 1919, but Friedman and Bloomfield took over in 2014 and turned it into the happening Italian watering hole it is today. The bar is open until 2 a.m. and the kitchen serves food until 1 a.m. However, Tosca’s signature roast chicken for two (with ricotta, pine nuts, and marsala sauce) takes an hour to prepare, so if you're hungry for this spectacular dish, be sure to grab a table by midnight.

On a quiet corner in the Marina District is Brazen Head, a local public house that’s been serving late night diners for the past 30 years. It’s cozy, dark, and the decor transports you to a pub in Ireland or England. It’s almost always packed even late at night. Come hungry—the food is hearty, classic, and comforting. Think French onion soup, meatballs in marinara sauce, and veal piccata.

Over in the Mission, Monk’s Kettle is open Sunday to Wednesday until midnight and Thursday to Saturday until 1 a.m. The neighborhood tavern is known for it’s excellent selection of craft beers. The food is upscale pub grub and almost everything, from the charcuterie to the preserves, is made in house. There is bone marrow, mussels, and fancy macaroni and cheese to share while larger plates involve a fried chicken sandwich, New York strip steak with potato confit, and pasta carbonara with duck egg yolk and pork belly.

If you crave quality pizza late night, Delarosa on Chestnut Street is your spot. From Sunday to Wednesday, the kitchen is open until midnight and the rest of the week it’s churning out Roman-inspired pizza until 1 a.m. Order an arugula fennel salad and a variety of delectable pies. The margherita with burrata; pancetta, mushroom, and mozzarella; and spicy fennel sausage with onion are our favorite pizzas.
