In Europe name day is often celebrated in addition to a birthday, so if your first name is Patrick and it’s St. Patrick’s Day—well, that’s a great reason for a party. Even if you are in New York. (Especially if you are in New York.) Last Friday, philanthopist Jean Shafiroff (author of Successful Philanthropy: How to Make a Life by What You Give) hosted a private surprise bash in honor of celebrity photographer Patrick McMullan at Jue Lan Club located in the old Limelight space.
Over 50 friends and family including Liam McMullan who DJ’d at the after party while wearing a silver Andy Warhol, Lady Liliana Cavendish, Yaz and Valentin Hernandez and son Valentin Hernandez Jr., interior designer Geoffrey Bradfield, philanthropists Jacqueline Kent Cooke and Larry Milstein, Pat Hackett, who edited Andy Warhol’s diaries, writers Michael Musto and R. Couri Hay, fashion designers Nick Graham, Frederick Anderson and Victor De Souza gathered for a dinner of Asian-inspired dishes served on tables decorated with green confetti. Jean made a short toast saluting McMullan. Among those wearing green were Dr. Penny Grant, James Francis Ginty, Janna Bullock and Emanuele Fiore, who joined Ann Rapp, Roy Kean, Matt Rich, John Christopher LiPuma and Britteny Dawson at the gathering.
Following dinner, 600 additional guests, including club maven Richie Rich, along with a representative from the Irish Embassy who called the birthday boy “a vital Irish American,” Justine Kleinman, Robin Byrd, Roger the Baron Cabrol, Mary Brosnahan, head of Coalition for the Homeless, April Barton, and Anthony Haden Guest, arrived to help celebrate St. Patrick’s Day as the after party began in the main room downstairs.
