Haute Weekend Roundup in Boston

The Boston Flower & Garden Show was in town this weekend at the Seaport World Trade Center. From lectures on organic seed starting and cooking demonstrations from the garden to designing floral wreaths and learning pruning tips from an arborist, the five-day expo, which wrapped up on Sunday, gave both first-time and experienced gardeners an inside look at some spring tips to make your garden look beautiful.

Billy Crystal was in town Friday night at the Boch Center Wang Theatre with Bonnie Hunt for his “Spend the night with Billy Crystal Tour.”

This weekend, the Museum of Fine Arts unveiled its newest exhibit, “Memory Unearthed The Lodz Ghetto Photographs of Henryk Ross,” running through July 30. Here, you can view more than 200 photographs of Holocaust along with some of Ross’ personal artifacts, including his own identity card.

Tonight at the Museum of Fine Arts, don’t miss the 13th annual Taste of Ginger to benefit Joslin Diabetes Center’s Asian American Diabetes Initiative. The culinary event will features some of Boston’s best chefs such as Joanne Chang, Jasper White, Andy Husbands and Dave Becker.

Over at the Opera House, Boston Ballet presented the contemporary art of dance with Kylian/Wings of Wax running now through April 2. Here’s an inside look at the show:

sweetgreen recently announced its first-ever collaboration in Boston with Chef Ken Oringer. Boston’s own James Beard award winning chef has created The Toro Bowl available at all Boston locations through the end of May. The flavorful bowl named after Oringer’s restaurant, which was inspired by his well known Spanish flavor combinations, contains quinoa, hot chickpeas, kale, roasted potatoes, roasted corn + tomatoes + jalapenos, local radishes, basil, feta, lemon squeeze, sweetgreen hot sauce and charred jalapeno yogurt dressing.

One of the best ways to see Boston is to plan a staycation and be a tourist in your own city. One of the hautest destinations in Boston is the Seaport District, and Element Hotel offers a quiet respite from the hustle and bustle of the area. The pet-friendly destination offers all of the comfort and amenities of an extended stay property combined with a luxury eco-friendly hotel (think indoor salt water pool, on-site fitness center, full breakfast bar, bikes to use, not to mention modern design suites complete with full refrigerator, stovetop and cookware).

Gather is the perfect place to head for dinner and a nightcap. Be sure to try the charred octopus with lemon garlic aioli and snack on the hummus plate before moving onto the pan seared Faroe Island salmon with rosemary infused heirloom potatoes.

When it comes to brunching in Boston, the Seaport District is one of the best places to check out for some weekend dining. One of the latest newcomers to the area is City Tap House. The gastropub has more than 60 craft beers on tap along with another 40 available by the bottle. We recommend getting started with the crispy 10-spice wings and an order of delicious baked oysters Kennedy filled with spinach, proscuitto and parmesan cream. Start the morning right with the hearty brewer’s breakfast, braised bacon Benedict or steak and eggs. The shaved prime rib French dip and sausage and mushroom pizza are the perfect way to ease into the afternoon.
