With the world’s largest show for Haute Horlogerie, Baselworld, starting next week a lot of brands are already announcing exciting new watches. Among them a surprisingly large amount of high-end ladies watches. These are the top 4:
The watch that went to the moon is surprisingly elegant on earth, especially in the Cappucino version. A 38mm case is crafted from stainless steel, yet the bezel, crown and chronograph pushers are made from Omega’s 18K Sedna gold. This unique alloy is fade-resistant and combines it with a deep, rich gold color. The bezel features an outer ring which is set with diamonds, while an aluminum insert on the inside shows the tachymeter scale. Inside ticks Omega Caliber 3330 with Co-Axial escapement and a magnetism-resistant silicon hairspring.
Originally introduced in 1980, the Corum Golden Bridge is a classic in the world of watchmaking. The brainchild of independent watchmaker Vincent Calabrese, it features a linear movement. While it spends most of its career in a round case, Corum now puts it in a rectangle case, which shows a whole new side of the watch. This time it shows more than one “golden bridge”. Not only does the movement feature a golden bridge to hold all the parts together, on each side 18K gold Roman numerals are riveted on a support making for two additional “golden bridges”. The result is a very elegant, yet technical looking watch.
Jaquet Droz delights ladies with the Grande Seconde Tourbillon, which features mother-of-pearl on both the front as well as the back of the watch. While a delight in itself, it is the movement that takes center stage. Fitted with a self-winding tourbillon caliber with a seven-day power reserve, Jaquet Droz makes a very clear statement about how women feel about technical and complicated mechanical ladies watches…..they love them!
The flying tourbillon is clearly visible from the front of the watch. What is not, is the hairspring and pallet fork crafted from silicon. This ensures that magnetism has less of an effect on the accuracy of the watch.
Breguet has a long tradition in creating high-end ladies watches, supplying the very first wrist watch for ladies ever, to the Queen of Naples. This year Breguet launches the Tradition Dame 7038 in 18K rose gold. This material gives the watch a much richer look and offers a nice contrast with the white mother-of-pearl dial. The case is 37mm in diameter and looks modern without being oversized. The bezel is set with 68 brilliant-cut diamonds, while the crown features a cabochon made of red synthetic ruby. The movement is automatic and is fitted, just as the Jaquet-Droz, with a pallet fork and hairspring made from magnetism-resistant silicon.
