The Most Inspiring Fashions at NYFW 2017 Are off the Runway

New York Fashion Week has wrapped up, but fashion month is going full force, moving to London and now Milan. NYFW is always the most exciting because we see the first fashion trends, and I can’t stop obsessing over the looks that were seen off the runways. While the collections at Oscar de la Renta, Libertine, and Carolina Herrera were gorgeous, the streets are where I consistently found the most inspirational fashion. New York was filled with stylish young women who braved the weather —which was completely unexpected!—to sport their most sensational looks. Warm and sunny weather was followed by an impromptu snow storm. No one saw it coming, but when the weather gets tough, the street style gets creative…

The trends that took over NYFW were pretty clear. Puffer jackets, colorful faux fur, hoodies worn under coats, see-through dresses, logo T-shirts—were pouring all over.

Hallelujah: It’s all about color for 2017! I’ve seen more vibrant hues than ever, plus, it’s a bonus seeing them in a winter time. Minimalism is taking a little rest while the maximalism is crawling all over bringing crayola furs, florals, and unusual patterns.

One of the most noticeable trends was political tees and statement messages which were seen on and around the runway.  The fashion world is reacting to government issues and the message was delivered loud and clear.

The 90s are alive and were represented well with puffer coats, velour sweats, and oversized hoodies turned into mini dresses:

The graphic tees from our teenage years are back—with one small new detail—now they’re Gucci. Can’t afford one? No problem. A tee with your favorite band on it will do just fine, but make sure it looks vintage.

After walking the streets of New York fashion week, I think that most of us can agree: sometimes the best looks are seen off the runways.
