Barry Bonds Surprises Crowds at SF Giants FanFest

It was a gorgeous weekend in San Francisco. The sun was shining and it felt almost spring-like. The Chinese New Year was celebrated with the annual evening parade. Here is what else went down: At the San Francisco Giants FanFest former player Barry Bonds made a surprise appearance. Bonds happened to be on a bike ride through the city and he decided to stop at AT&T Park to sign some autographs for the fans. Bonds shared a video of himself on Twitter in which he happily engaged with the crowds.

Last night’s Grammys were all about Adele and Queen Bey, but the Bay Area was not without recognition. Oakland-based blues guitarist and singer Xavier Dphrepaulezz, who goes by Fantastic Negrito, won the award for best contemporary blues album with “The Last Days of Oakland.” In a post he shared on Facebook, Dphrepaulezz said of the Grammy, “it’s actually pretty heavy.” According to the San Francisco Chronicle a total of 18 local artists and producers were nominated for Grammys this year. Besides Dphrepaulezz, other nominees included San Francisco Symphony director Michael Tilson-Thomas (for best orchestral performance for the Symphony’s recording of “Bates: Works for Orchestra”), Los Rakas, another Oakland based group (for best Latin rock, urban, or alternative album), and Margaret Cho (for best comedy album).

SFMOMA hosted 200 people last week at its Director’s Circle Dinner. The event featured Mexican electronic artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer as its special guest and was chaired by Kim Anstatt Morton. The dinner was illuminated by lights set to the recorded heartbeats of 300 people. Each lightbulb represented a the heartbeat of a different person who participated in the artist’s installation Pulse Room, which has been shown all over the world. Notable attendees included SF art world luminaries Bob and Randi Fisher, Neal Benezra, Helen and Charles Schwab, Maria Menetti Shrem, Anna Gavazzi, and Norah Stone.
