In Spanish, La Reina means “Queen.” Indeed, that’s the idea at the tony new Plaza la Reina, a 44-room boutique hotel that opened its doors in Westwood last week.

Los Angeles commercial real estate investor and owner Kambiz Hekmat developed Plaza La Reina to address a growing trend within the hospitality industry: the need to provide upscale accommodations for discerning guests in an extraordinary location whether they are visiting for pleasure or a business conference, fashion shoot, movie production meeting or media event.

Its style brings to mind the gracious, refined elegance of 1920’s Santa Barbara Mission revival style architecture. Architect Stefanos Polyzoides implemented distinctive custom details while designing the property’s exterior. Studio HBA designed the Spanish-influenced interiors, including the eye-catching lobby, with its high-coffered ceilings, one-of-a-kind antique furniture and parquet oak floors adorned with a hand-tufted area carpet.

Conveniently located adjacent to the Wilshire Corridor, an elegant residential commercial center and within minutes of Beverly Hills, Century City, the Wilshire Corridor, Santa Monica, Bel Air and Brentwood, Plaza la Reina is also just a few steps away from the esteemed University of California, Los Angeles and its world renowned medical center.

Plaza La Reina provides guests with a variety of accommodations, including unique luxury studios, one-bedroom suites and specialty suites, all of which feature virtually sound-proof windows for the utmost privacy. Each suite features a living area and either a bedroom or a generous sleeping alcove as well as a kitchenette, Bosch washer and dryer, and generous balcony for outdoor living.

Specific and custom design elements are a mix of old world meets modern decor: expect to find rounded corners, mitered baseboard, iron vent grilles, custom made sconces, Brazilian cherry hardwood floors, carved wood mirrors, wrought iron light fixtures, beds dressed in designer Fili D’Oro linens, a stocked kitchenette appointed with rare “Striato Olimpico” marble tops, a Bosch dishwasher, as well as Sur La Table house wears. The Guest baths are equally stunning, featuring mosaic marble tile floors and baseboards, a Kalista sink and premium Etro designer bath products which were custom designed for Plaza La Reina. A custom made Oriental area rug with varying jewel tone palettes creates a different color scheme in each room so each suite is unique. Spacious living rooms are complemented by an extra 37-inch 4K TV, ample closet space and a Bosch washer and dryer.

In addition to its elegant interior, the hotel features approximately 3,000 square feet of event space, including a flower-draped courtyard as well as a secluded rooftop deck overlooking Westwood Village. Mr. Hekmat’s wife’s jewelry inspired the colors in the fountain and the tree well tiles, lending the intimate space an even more personalized touch.

Guests who stay here will also find themselves offered a bevy of amenities, including a guest concierge who can readily assist hotel guests with a multitude of personalized needs, from exotic car rentals, auto detail, and private jet and yacht services to nanny and/or babysitting services, private chef arrangements, private shopping excursions, and salon and spa services. The hotel also offers complimentary Wi-Fi, smart phone guest suite access, a VIP parking garage for discrete guests and select pet-friendly suites.
