Now that Thanksgiving is officially over, it’s time to get into the true holiday spirit. To do just that, we recommend kicking it off with The Seaport Hotel and World Trade Center’s 5th annual Celebrity Holiday Tree Auction and Toy Drive Kick-off event being held Wednesday, December 7th at the Seaport World Trade Center. This year’s Christmas in the City (CITC) will feature New England Patriots and longtime CITC supporter Julian Edelman, who will be on hand for the first public reading of his newly released children’s book, Flying High. Edelman will also participate in a live auction which will include a Julian Edelman-themed Christmas tree decorated by the wide receiver along with a select number of signed copies of his book. The evening will feature additional silent and live auctions and raffles along with snacks and cocktails provided by the Seaport Hotel & World Trade Center.
Christmas in the City serves up a winter wonderland experience, complete with lunch, pony rides, free dental check-ups, haircuts, amusement park bouncy slides, entertainment from choirs and dancers and pictures with Santa to thousands of children and their moms or guardians who are living in homeless shelters or transitional housing. They also help families in need in the days leading up to and including Christmas Eve. The event, which runs from 6 to 8 p.m., allows each child to receive a gift from their wish list with a label letting them know it was selected especially for them by Santa (with a little help from Christmas in the City’s generous donors).

All of the proceeds from the event benefit Christmas in the City, a 100 percent volunteer-run non-profit organization dedicated to helping relieve the impact of homelessness and poverty within underserved populations in the Boston area and the surrounding communities; the funds will be used primarily to purchase toys and clothing for over 18,000 children during the holiday season.
Approximately 5,000 children living in shelters, hotels or transitional housing will attend the celebration with their parent or guardian. The following day, Christmas in the City will distribute toys and clothing to 13,000 more children whose families have fallen on hard times and otherwise might find nothing under the tree. The Seaport Hotel serves as a drop-off location for toys. If you are looking to donate toys, you may leave them directly at the valet parking station or in the hotel lobby beginning on Tuesday, November 29th.
