Charlotte Shultz Salvation Army Holiday Lunch

Ultimate entertainer Charlotte Shultz was recently celebrated at the Salvation Army’s 13th annual holiday luncheon. The event not only honored Shultz, but also the eight San Francisco mayors who she worked with as the city’s chief of protocol, and her husband George Shultz. Condoleezza Rice was a member of the luncheon’s honorary committee and said “I am delighted that The Salvation Army is honoring George and Charlotte for their longstanding support of the organization in San Francisco and for the contributions that they have made to the Bay Area and our nation through public service.” Chairs June Sargent and Kristen Hueter followed Shultz’s lead and made sure that no detail of the day was overlooked. In honor to the event, the chairs had the Salvation Army commission local artist, Marcus Skoda, to create an illustration of Charlotte and her mayors. The fun image featured mayor Ed Lee and among others, former mayors Gavin Newsom, Willie Brown, and Dianne Feinstein.

The 320 guests greeted Shultz with a standing ovation and her husband gave her a loving toast. Beach Blanket Babylon cast member Shawna Ferris McNulty sang a tribute to Shultz with a special song written for Shultz by friend Jo Schuman Silver. During her acceptance speech, Shultz shared fascinating highlights from her decades as the mayor’s event planner. Some of her accomplishments include putting together the 50th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge and hosting Queen Elizabeth II when she came to San Francisco. The meal featured a hot roast turkey lunch. Over $500,000 was raised for the Salvation Army, which will be used to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, and offer after school programs for kids in needs. Notable attendees included former mayor of San Francisco Frank Jordan and philanthropist Ellen Magnin Newman.
