Do you hear that noise? It’s the thrilling rumble of the Blue Angels soaring into town. Fleet Week has officially started in San Francisco and this weekend is going to be a good one. The weather on Friday and Saturday will be sunny and warm—perfect conditions for watching an air show. This year two more teams of jet pilots (the Patriots Jet Team and the Breathing Jet Team) are scheduled to join the lineup that includes the Royal Canadian Air Force jet, the F-22 Raptor fighter jet, the United Airlines jumbo jet, and the famed Blue Angels. The shows start 12 noon on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with the Blue Angels taking flight the last hour, at 3 p.m. Wondering where you can watch the show in style? Here are five fabulous spots for sipping sparkling wine while you catch the planes.

1 Top of the Mark

For an unparalleled view of the planes, consider the bar on the 19th floor of the InterContinental Mark Hopkins Hotel. At the Top of the Mark, you’ll have 360-degree views of the city and be almost at the same height as the planes when they zoom by. The Top of the Mark has deep roots in American history as it was often a place where servicemen would enjoy their last drink before heading to war. The tradition was that servicemen would buy a bottle and leave it the car of the bartender, so the next member of their squadron could savor a free drink. If you happened to be the solider who finished off the bottle, you had to buy the replacement. This weekend the bar is offering a special menu of classic whiskey cocktails, so be prepared to drink up!

2 Waterbar

Who wouldn’t want to indulge in a dozen oysters while watching five planes dive through the sky? Certainly not us! Waterbar just debuted their own restaurant-exclusive oyster, Golden Fog, that is farmed specifically for the eatery, so order a dozen or more of those and relax on the patio. Linger over grilled local squid and yuzu marinated ceviche. Want more than just seafood? Order their herbed goat cheese dip, charred shishito peppers, and addictive French fries.

3 La Mar

Peruvian chef Gastón Acurio’s La Mar has a lively patio with panoramic views of the Bay. Come early to snag a table and be prepared to savor piping hot empanadas, grilled meat and vegetable skewers, and lots of Peruvian style sashimi called tiraditos. Pair with a hot pink prickly pear margarita or traditional cooling pisco sour. Cheers!

4 Epic Steak

More in the mood for steak and martinis? Head to Epic Steak’s outdoor patio and order a Fog Point Martini. It’s made with Hanger One’s Fog Point Vodka, a spirit that is diluted with fog-derived water, but distilled with wine. Pair the martini with a jumbo shrimp cocktail, king salmon tartare, or a bacon-cheddar wagyu burger.

5 Presidio Twilight from Off the Grid

Prefer to watch the air show while lounging on a blanket on the grass? Head to the Presidio Trust Main Parade lawn where Off the Grid is hosting their last Twilight event of the season. The US Navy Band and Marine Silent Drill Platoon will be on hand to perform and food truck vendors will be serving food and drink.
