You know it’s the start of the Fall gala season because Leo is back in town! On Tuesday Leonardo DiCaprio joined other back-from-the-Hamptons-and-Ibiza crowd at the second annual Unitas gala to fight human trafficking. Joining DiCaprio were Pamela Anderson, Paris Hilton, Scott Eastwood, Toni Garrn, Andreja Pejic, Sara Sampaio, Martha Hunt, Anna Ewers, Sebastian Stan, Rachel Hilbert, Sophie Simmons, Vita Sidorkina, Ebonee Davis, Dean and Dan Caten, Devon Windsor, Barbara Fialho, Valery Kaufman, Cindy Bruna, Valentina Zelyaeva, Mohammed Al Turki, Daphne Groeneveld, Enikő Mihalik, Rianne ten Haken, Alina Baikova, Fernanda Motta, Hanne Gaby Odiele, Elizabeth Sulcer, Aluna George, Nataša Vojnović, Ophelie Guillermand, Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld, Mina Cvetkovic, Roberto Dutesco, Head of Unitas Mo Stojnovic, and Unitas Global Ambassador Daria Strokous. The gala raised over $1 million dollars.
The night included a special performance by Maxwell and an auction that saw some enthusiastic bidding for items that included Ai Weiwei: Handcuffs, Roberto Dutesco Prints, Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Tickets and Garrard Entanglement Earrings.
The evening’s fundraising supports a great cause: Unitas is an international non-profit working to fight human trafficking by developing and supporting programs to prevent enslavement; to help victims find freedom; and to provide opportunities for them to thrive once they are free. The charity’s year-round supporters include everyone from models, entertainers, and C-suite executives to students who want to donate their time, skills, and resources to fight human trafficking.
Human trafficking is the world’s fastest growing criminal industry and it affects every nation. It is hard to believe that there are currently more slaves in the world than at any other point in human history, with an estimated of 27 million victims across the globe. More than than 20% of trafficking victims are children. In Europe, half of all human trafficking victims originate from the Balkans.
