When it comes to multi-tasking, few can beat actress-director Judy Greer. Even multi-hyphenate James Franco might feel exhausted when reading her list of recent and upcoming projects. That includes a directorial debut with the dramedy A Happening of Monumental Proportions starring Common and Allison Janney; acting in the films Pottersville with Christina Hendricks and Michael Shannon, Geezer with Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, the Measure of Man with Luke Wilson and the Netflix original, Ask the StoryBots, which premiered on August 12th. She also recently partnered with Lactaid® for its “No More Dairy Envy” campaign. Here, she shares her New York favorites.
When you come to New York what part of town do you like to stay in? I always like to try new neighborhoods because New York is changing so fast, but the East Village always seems to call my name.
Favorite hotels and why: The Lafayette House. It makes me feel like I’m going back in time. The Bowery Hotel. It’s so chic, and I always run into someone I know in the lobby.
What’s the first thing you do when you unpack your bags in New York? Curse myself for forgetting something/decide I need all new clothes.
Most memorable New York experience? Doing my Broadway play Dead Accounts. I felt like a real New Yorker!
Favorite restaurants: There is not a bad restaurant in New York City. At least I’ve never had a bad meal there. I love Mooncake Foods because everything is so good and fresh and the people who work there are wonderful.
Favorite cocktail spots: Lovers of Today because it is cozy and I could stay for hours (and often do!).
Favorite “secret” spot in New York: Not telling.
Where do you like to shop: The No. 6 Store. It has beautiful and original clothes and shoes that I can’t always find in L.A. and I wear whatever I buy there for years and years.
A perfect New York day would include….Room service breakfast, a long walk with a cup of coffee (with Lactaid® Milk. I’m sensitive to dairy so it’s a must—it’s real milk, just without the lactose), seeing a Broadway matinee, shopping my way home (the Strand Bookstore for sure!) Dinner at Jack’s Wife Frieda with friends and husband. Cocktails at someplace nearby and then a walk home holding hands with my husband.
How do you like being on the other side of the camera as a director? What were the biggest challenges? The biggest challenges were making quick decisions and taking time to eat. But I loved it so much.
You have multiple releases this year. Please give us your best time-management secret for successfully juggling so many projects! Uber-ing places so I can answer texts and emails in the car.
Where are you vacationing this summer? I am going to Sonoma for a long weekend in September. I don’t get to vacation too much, but we manage to squeeze in weekend trips here and there. Last December we went to a resort called Mukul in Nicaragua and it was heaven.
What are your favorite Lactaid® desserts? Lactaid® ice cream!!! With Lactaid® I can make my own ice cream desserts at home. I also like to use it in milkshakes and ice cream cookie sandwiches. This summer, Lactaid® and Milk Bar created some amazing ice cream recipes. My favorite is called the Compost Cookie Granola Fudge and it makes me so so so happy! You can find the recipes on lactaid.com. I never have to have dairy envy again!
