The Summer Olympics kicked off in Rio last week, and now you can sample sandwiches in Las Vegas reflective of some of the great countries represented at the games. These global sandwiches also give you a chance to see the differences in these hand-held dishes, only in Las Vegas, restaurants take those sandwiches and refine them to create the ultimate dish from different cultures. Here, a look at five sandwiches from paninis from Italy, steam buns from Japan, tortas from Mexico, croque Madames from France and chicken sandwiches from America, all with a Las Vegas spin.

 

1 Panini at Lago by Julian Serrano

The lunch menu at Lago by Julian Serrano at th Bellagio offers four Italian paninis. The Poltettone comes with a meatball patty, tomato and mozzarella cheese on focaccia bread. Try a classic favorite with the Pollo panini with a fried chicken breast smothered in mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce served on ciabatta bread. The vegetarian features roasted vegetables, tangy goat cheese and a fresh arugula on whole wheat bread. Piadina bread is loaded up with pork loin, cipollini onions, fontina cheese, and spicy peperoncino to create the Porchetta panini.

2 Steam buns at Yusho

Travel to Asia with just one bite of Yusho's steam buns at the Monte Carlo. The restaurant serves four different steam buns, including the crispy cod bun with tempura battered cod, pickled cucumbers and sesame aioli on an airy bun; the vegetarian-friendly eggplant bun with sweet soy marinated eggplant with Fuji apples, jalapeños and peanuts; the pork shoulder version with caramelized kimchi, cilantro, ssam sauce and peanuts; and the crispy chicken bun with potato puree, spicy aioli and pickled cucumber. The small buns are perfect for getting multiple, or all, and trying various flavors.

3 Tortas at Tacos & Tequila

The Mexican favorite finds a home at Tacos & Tequila at the Luxor. Guests have the choice of pulled chicken, carne asada or carnitas for their meat, each added to fresh baked bolillo roll already topped with aioli, black bean puree, sliced avocado, lettuce and pico de gallo.

4 Croque Madame at Bardot Brasserie

The traditional French breakfast dish can be found on the Bardot Brasserie brunch menu at Aria. The fancy grilled cheese contains slices of Paris ham and generous amounts of Gruyere fondue between two slices of bread. The sandwich is then toasted, topped with more cheese fondue and a runny and rich organic egg.

5 Chicken sandwich from Beerhaus

Beerhaus at The Park takes a classic American sandwich of roasted chicken and makes it artisanal. The antibiotic and hormone free chicken is shredded and placed on a soft bun with crispy onions, peppery arugula, cool herb mayo, and a dill pickle.
