Haute Spots: Harborview Nantucket

One of the best summer escapes for any local resident is to the island of Nantucket. Surrounded by sandy dune beaches dotted with gray cedar shingled homes with perfectly manicured lawns and gardens, the island is large enough to explore, but small enough to do it all by bicycle. Whether you arrive by private plane to Nantucket Airport or by ferry from Hyannis to Straight Wharf, the small island off the coast of Cape Cod offers a quintessential escape.

We recently spent a weekend at Harborview Nantucket, a gorgeous collection of 11 luxury cottages that range in size from one to four bedrooms. The property, which is located just a short walk along the cobblestone streets from the high-end boutiques near Straight Wharf and the Whaling Museum, offers all of the comforts of home, but with the modern amenities of a luxury hotel.

The spacious two-bedroom Spinnaker cottage is equipped with high end appliances, a wood burning fireplace, washer and dryer, oceanfront deck, and full kitchen that can be stocked with all of your favorite groceries in advance of your stay with a simple call to the concierge.

Whether you come here for a day of relaxation in your cottage, on the private beach, or are looking for a luxe shopping excursion at one of the many art galleries along Main Street, Nantucket offers a haute taste of island living.

Two of the privately owned cottages are also pet friendly (the cozy one-bedroom Ebb & Flow and larger two-bedroom Fair Wind) so you can bring along your four-legged friends for an entire family vacation.

What makes this property so special is the personalized on-site concierge service that Harborview Nantucket provides. When we checked in with Allison, she escorted us to our cottage and asked us if we needed anything to make our stay more comfortable. She later provided us with firewood for our fireplace and offered recommendations for dining nearby as well as things to do (fishing, sailing or kayaking, anyone?) and places to explore on the island (Cisco Brewery is just a quick bike ride away).

This summer is sure to be a fun one on the island with a variety of festivals returning, from wine and comedy to music and film festivals, not to mention the Nantucket Antique Show, the Boston Pops, and Race Week highlighted by the Opera House Cup, featuring only wooden hulled boats.

You can book a night at the theater, take a twilight harbor cruise, book a deep sea fishing cruise or simply relax and enjoy the spectacular views of the harbor. That’s the biggest decision you’ll have to make here.
