April 22 is Earth Day named in honor of our planet’s vital ecosystems. While promoting viable awareness through environmentally conscious happenings, here’s a look at a few places where you can get your green on in Boston.
1 Radio 92.9 EarthFest
Next month, Radio 92.9 is hosting its annual EarthFest at the DCR Hatch Memorial Shell. The day long music festival on May 21 features local and national talents along with green friendly products. The artist lineup will be announced on Earth Day (past performers include Guster).
2 Earth Day Charles River Cleanup
More than a billion people around the world will be celebrating Earth Day this year. The event is designed to showcase environmentally friendly events to keep each city clean. To do that, the Charles River Watershed Association is hosting its annual Earth Day Charles River Cleanup on Saturday, April 30 from 9 a.m. to noon. Each year, the event draws more than 3,000 volunteers looking to clean the river of trash and debris and assist with park maintenance. The event is part of American Rivers’ National River Cleanup, which has removed more than 20 million pounds of trash from the country’s waterways. This might be the best way to kick off the canoe and boating season by cleaning up that “Dirty Water.”
3 Earth Day Celebration
Families can head out west on Friday, April 22 to celebrate Earth Day at EcoTarium in Worcester. Just a short drive from Boston, the day of celebration starts at 10 a.m. with indoor and outdoor activities and entertainment. You can walk the trails, explore the woods, sign up for a science discovery program to learn about light, wind or electricity, or check out Passport to the Universe at the Planetarium.

4 Earth Day Festival
College students also know how important sustainability is, which is why they are hosting their annual Earth Day festival on April 21. The sixth annual event is being held from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This year’s theme to celebrate sustainability is “Local Solutions to Climate Change in Boston.” The day’s events include eco-friendly shopping for local produce at the farmer’s market, local entertainment and learning how to decrease your local carbon footprint.

5 Party for the Planet
Round up the kids and take the whole family over to Franklin Park Zoo. It's one of the best ways in Boston to enjoy a day of wildlife with the Party for the Planet event, which includes everything from animal enrichment activities and scavenger hunts to eco-friendly exhibits and talks about the zoo's sustainable garden project.
