Over the weekend, Haute 100 listers Gloria and Emilio Estefan attended the Destination Fashion 2016 presented by Swanee and Paul DiMare. The event, which was hosted by The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis, celebrated Bal Harbour Shops’ 50th anniversary and The Miami Project’s 30th anniversary.

Co-anchor of NBC’s Today Show Savannah Guthrie served as emcee for the night. In addition to the Grammy Award-wining couple, notable attendees included Academy Award Winner Tommy Lee Jones and wife Dawn Jones, Golden Globe Winner Christian Slater and wife Brittany Slater, among other philanthropic icons, business leaders, fashionistas and South Florida natives. The Estefans and Slaters served as honorary co-chairs.

The event raised millions of dollars, which will go to research for finding a cure for paralysis. Paralysis is something that is near and dear to the Estefans, as Gloria was nearly left paralyzed in a tour bus accident that occurred in 1990. The Cuban singer suffered a broken vertebra when a truck ran into her band’s bus on a snow-covered highway in the Pocono Mountains.

“We are blessed to be here. When Gloria had her accident, every achievement, from her being able to brush her own teeth to dress herself was a celebration, so we have been there from the beginning,” Emilio said.

The fête, which was closed to the public, featured a fashion show by renowned luxury designer Brunello Cucinelli. Cucinelli’s Spring 2016 Collection, presented by Neiman Marcus Bal Harbour, shuffled guests through a progressive party that showcased the fashion trends, movies, television and entertainment through the Decades-60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s. The 2016 Women of Substance and Style walked down the runway with their celebrity presenters. Partygoers had the opportunity to bid on the threads via a “Too Good to Be Silent” auction items donated by many of the Bal Harbour Shops’ stores. In addition, fellow Haute 100 lister Pitbull performed.

The 2016 Women of Substance and Style included: Susan Abraham, Pennie Abramson, Gabrielle Anwar, Kelly Arison, Tracey Berkowitz, Cynthia Boich, Mercedes Carlson, Jordan Claure, Orianne Collins, Linda Corey, Kristin Ducote, Bobi Eroncig, Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, Ana de Figueroa Cisneros, Katherine Fernandez Rundle, Shelley Golden, Melinda Gonzalez, Becky Haggard McCarron, Teresa Haskett, Amy Hollub, Wendy Holman, Kinga Lampert, Kristin Lazenby, Lisa Leslie, Sandra Levy, Marile Lopez, Jayne Malfitano, Christina Martin, Ashley Moore, Suzanne Murphy, Nan O’Leary, Laura Posada, Melissa Posner, Barbara Reese, Laura Roberts, Kathy Simkins, Lydia Touzet, and Gigi Whitman.
