Why You Need To See The W Times Square $10 Million Renovation

As you enter the doors of New York’s infamous W Hotel located in the center of Times Square, the iconic Living Room awaits. Relaunched this past October, the new and improved lounge remains loyal to W New York’s classic and timeless elegance, yet now with a twist of electronic modernity. In dark grays and bright golds, the Living Room is lit up by blue and red neon light designs by Lite Brite Neon, as well as opulent golden crystal chandeliers – a unique and splendid combination.

Living Room Bar

The bar is stocked up with every liqueur imaginable and operated by some of New York’s hottest mixologists of the moment. On the side wall, opposite the bar, are private golden leather booths in black and gold wallpaper. The light of the chandeliers is warm and the intimacy is pure luxury. Along the outer walls leading to the stainless steel elevators is an inspiring, W-commissioned mural. Created by well-known graffiti and street artist Lady Aiko using a mix of techniques from collaging, stenciling, silk screening, and hand painting, the mural is a hand drawn history of Times Square, from the showgirls of the 1960s to the androgynous New Wave kids of the 1980s. If you are a New Yorker or art aficionado (or simply enjoy looking at beautiful things) this mural is a treat.

Lounge - Living Room

To the right of the bar is the gem of the lounge, a brass and dichroic glass “DJ Ball”, inspired by Times Square’s signature New Year’s Eve ball. By day, it acts as a beautiful decorative screen while by night it spins 180 degrees to reveal a glistening, luminescent, color-changing DJ booth. Behind this diamond-patterned ball is a private nook with a state of the art nightclub-style photo booth that instantly prints, shares and uploads images to all your social media outlets. Believe us when we say, you have never seen a photo booth like this.

Lounge - DJ Booth Main

With a clear view of the DJ Ball are two large leather banquettes and an abstract communal table, a design inspired by Broadway’s grand pianos and the social dynamic of piano bars where performers would gather after shows. While you sit and enjoy the DJ’s haute mixes, you can indulge in a variety of handcrafted drinks and tasty hors d’oeuvres. The cocktail menu, designed by indieFORK, includes an extensive drink list, all prepared by Mixologist Albert Dempompeis from The Handy Liquor Bar. Last but not least, the delicious Mexican-style appetizers and fine seafood catered by W’s Blue Fin and Dos Caminos are a delight, lucky for you these top-of-the-line restaurants are available for catering any day of the week!

“W New York – Times Square’s dramatic new Living Room is yet again setting the scene in Manhattan’s epicenter. This is the perfect example of how W redefined – and continues to redefine – the hotel experience by weaving winks into its forward-thinking designs and guest experience, making it the ultimate place to work hard and play harder.”
