Alessandro Michele, Gucci’s new creative director, shook up the world of fashion with his first collection; He raised the bar by giving Gucci a complete makeover, and expectations were high at Milan fashion week for his Spring/Summer 2016 ready-to-wear collection. His brave creations were a talk of fashion week and far from boring.

Growing up, I was one of those girls who read books about the unbelievable adventures and beautiful things. I had dreams about those things at night, but went to school in the morning with the aim of being a good student and hiding my dreams deep inside.

There is something very nostalgic in Michele’s vintage-inspired pieces, with its pleated skirts, colorful suits and blouses with bows. In this collection Alessandro used some of his previous elements, but this time he took them to extreme: colors are brighter, bows are larger, glasses more massive. The color that definitely stood out and dominated was a beautiful jungle green. A gorgeous green lace dress is one of the keys of the collection. Tigers, snakes and wild birds continue the tropical theme. Sky-high platforms are back, but loafers and low heals are not ready to retire either.

I was pleased to be invited to a private cocktail party to celebrate the arrival of Gucci Spring/Summer 2016 Women’s collection, and trust me, I was waiting for the moment to see and touch it. I love coming to San Francisco Gucci boutique. Always friendly, the store staff is very knowledgeable about the brand they represent and about fashion trends in general.

The transition from Frida Giannini era takes some time to adjust to, that’s why ready-to-wear and shoes manager Ian Raz and ready-to-wear specialist Margret Holcomb are more than happy to walk anyone through the collection and discuss each piece, and of course I was eager to listen.

This time I was in real trouble being surrounded by objects of my desire. Immediately I set my eyes on the emerald green bomber and an embroidered leather jacket which was a real masterpiece. As a shameless shoe lover, I could not pass on the opportunity to try the shoes on either. Soon enough it was obvious: I was falling in love with pretty much everything.

“I’m a lover of beautiful things, I walk down the street and I fall in love with everything.” – Alessandro Michele, Gucci Creative Director.

Oh well, THAT makes the two of us!
