Mark Wahlberg Takes Part in the PGA’s Northern Trust Open

Mark Wahlberg took some time out of the busy awards season to indulge in a personal passion as he participated in the 2016 Pro-Am tournament at the Northern Trust Open, LA’s only PGA Tour event.

The Academy Award-winning actor relished taking part in the special, dedicated day of golf, where groups of three amateur golfers are paired with a professional golfer for a round of 18, offering fans a chance to get up close and personal with pros in a more relaxed environment.

Wahlberg, a lefty swinger, took to the turf with his personal caddy and trainer Darren “Hammer” Davis. The two talked strategy, wind direction and other elements that affect a golfers overall play before Mark teed off, also impressing others with his major putting skills.

The tournament, which runs from Feb 15th-21st, is hosted at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, draws more than 60,000 fans over the week. This year, some of the top golfers in the world will compete for the championship, including Rory McIlroy, Bubba Watson and Jordan Spieth.

The Tournament

Gates Open: 6:00 am

The professional tournament runs from Thursday morning through Sunday, and will include some of the PGA’s most recognizable names, including Rory McIlroy, Bubba Watson and Jordan Spieth.

Opening Day Wednesday Pro-Am:

Gates Open: 6:00am

The Wednesday Pro-Am offers a great chance for fans to get up close and personal with pros in a more relaxed atmosphere. Groups of three amateur golfers are paired with a professional golfer for a round of 18.

Live Concert from The English Beat – Saturday at 3:45PM

The English Beat will entertain fans with songs from with their distinctive, infectious dance rhythm during a concert on Saturday, presented by johnnie-O.  Part of the tournament’s #MoreThanGolf offerings, the show is complimentary for spectators with a Saturday Tournament Grounds ticket. The English Beat was founded in Birmingham, England, in 1978. Their songs fuse ska, pop, soul, reggae and punk rock, and their lyrics deal with themes of love, unity and sociopolitical topics. The English Beat, currently consisting of Dave Wakeling (lead vocals, guitar), Matt Morrish (saxophone/vocals),  Kevin Lum (keyboards/vocals), King Schascha (electronic organ), Brian “Nucci” Cantrell (drums), Michael “Railo” Railton (keyboards/vocals), and Larry Young (bass/vocals), released three studio albums in the early 1980s: I Just Can’t Stop It (1980); Wha’ppen?
