Actress-turned-mogul and Haute 100 lister Jessica Alba has teamed up with premium denim label DL1961 on a collection of 10 denim styles, entitled JAxDL. The CEO and founder of The Honest Company will be the new face of the new grunge-inspired Spring 2016 collection.
In a press release, Alba said, “I’m very excited to join the DL team. It’s my first foray into fashion design, but I know I want to design for women of every body type. Feeling beautiful and confident in a pair of jeans is what every woman wants, and I want to be able to give them that.”
The mother-of-two told Vogue when it came to the designing process she used her own body as a starting point. “I remember having to lay down to button up those tiny Daisy Duke shorts because I had a big booty. I had to squeeze into my friends’ jeans because my mom wouldn’t buy them for me,” she says. “My inspiration for most things in life is always the ’90s supermodels: Cindy, Naomi, Claudia. Those bodies! Lately I’ve been getting back into bell-bottoms, but high-waisted and not too flared. The jeans that I’m designing are going to celebrate women’s bodies and show off those curves.”
Alba, whose Honest Company is a consumer goods company that emphasizes non-toxic household and beauty products, is proud to represent a company that also reflect her ethical and moral beliefs. “DL1961 is a thoughtful company in the way they go about creating denim, and that angle was important to me as well,” she said.
As for the brand, DL is excited to have Alba on the team. “Jessica embodies the spirit of the DL woman – confident, style conscious and business savvy,” says Sarah Ahmed, Creative Director of DL1961. “Our goal together is to offer women a superior product that makes them feel great, while also having an impact on the environment.”
For those of you unfamiliar with the premium denim brand, it launched in New York City with a mission to create the perfect fitting jean, using the revolutionary technology XFIT LYCRA. Its jeans are crafted from technologically advanced fibers that move 360 degree and boasts 98 percent retention, which means the denim is designed to never sag, bag or lose shape.
