Las Vegas residencies have been popular since the Rat Pack era, but the last few years have seen a resurgence as top names like Elton John, Celine Dion and more recently, Brittney Spears have all set up shop in Sin City. The Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino have especially embraced the concept after the massive success of Spears’ “Pieces of Me” residency. Now they’ve followed that up by bringing Jennifer Lopez to town and her dazzling new show, “All I Have” runs through early February before taking a hiatus until JLo makes her return in May.
There are few performers who can match the singing and dancing combination that JLo brings to the stage each night. The New York native creates a stunning show, drawing inspirations from past iconic Vegas performers, such as a ton of costume changes a la Liberace and the showmanship of Elton John. Just with considerably more booty-licious moves. The show itself runs through all of JLo’s biggest hits, from her early chart-toppers like “If you Had My Love,” “Let’s Get Loud” and “I’m Real” (opening featured J. Rule as the surprise guest) to current hits like last year’s “Booty.” JLo also adds a few surprises like covering Lee Ann Womack’s country song, “I Hope you Dance.” For this performance, which she dedicates to her children, Jlo is drapped in a colossal gown that actually lifts off from the stage and also serves as a colorful projection screen showcasing the ultra-cool video image mapping that is utilized throughout the show. However, JLo is at her best when she’s showing off her high-intensity dance routines and delivering the uptempo jams that have propelled her music career. During the last half of “All I Have” JLo turns The AXIS Theater into a vibrant nightclub as she performs EDM-infused versions of songs like “Waiting for Tonight” and “On The Floor.” It’s a fitting way to close out the show as Lopez leaves you on a high and begging for more.
Fans of Lopez will absolutely do not want to miss seeing her “All I Have” residency at Planet Hollywood, but even if you’re just a casual fan, the impressive stage show is one of the best currently taking place in Sin City. So put on your dancing shoes and get ready for a party that will have you singing and dancing long after the lights have come on.
