Jaden Smith’s very distinctive style has paid off: the son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith has been named the newest face of Louis Vuitton.
Louis Vuitton creative director Nicholas Ghesquiere made the announcement via his Instagram account on Jan. 2, posting a photo of the 17-year-old star with the caption, “Happy to introduce Jaden Smith @christianingrey in the new SS16 @louisvuitton ad Campaign photographed by Bruce Weber.”
Though he’s not even yet a high school graduate, Smith has still been named one of GQ’s 20 Most Stylish Men Alive in 2015. He favors unique style choices such as wearing dresses as shirts; esoteric fashion choices have included wearing a black-and-white outfit with a skirt to his prom and wearing a white Batman suit to the wedding of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West.
Smith, a rapper, actor and designer/founder of the multi-faceted clothing brand MSFTSrep, told GQ that his style icons include Batman, Robin, Superman and West. Though he referred to himself as the “king of animal print” in the past, he now favors wearing black, draped clothing so that he can feel like a superhero.
Smith is the latest celebrity offspring to make waves in the world of fashion. Gigi Hadid, the daughter of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Yolanda Foster and Mohamed Hadid, has just been announced as the face of Tommy Hilfiger (and will design a capsule collection for the Americana brand as well); Rafferty Law, the son of Jude Law and Sadie Frost, has modeled for DKNY and Effra London; Lily-Rose Depp, the daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, has modeled for Chanel; and David and Victoria Beckham‘s son, Romeo, appeared in Burberry’s winter campaign while their eldest son, Brooklyn, was featured in Reserved’s latest ad campaign. Last but not least is Kendall Jenner, the daughter of Kris and Caitlin Jenner, who was a recent face of both Balmain and Fendi.
