Haute Spots Boston: Nantucket Christmas Stroll

One of the best escapes around the holidays is to the island of Nantucket. Charter a private flight from Boston and you can be on island in less than a half an hour for one of the island’s hautest happenings this weekend.

If you haven’t visited for their popular annual Christmas Stroll weekend, you are in for a treat. The island actually participates in a month long celebration known as Nantucket Noel, which is put on by the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce.

This weekend, the popular Christmas Stroll is being held with visitors coming from all over the world to see Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive on the island via a Coast Guard vessel and ride up Main Street in a horse-drawn carriage accompanied by the Town Crier. Carolers in Victorian costumes, bell ringers, student choirs, and other musicians will perform on the Main Street stage as well as stroll through town performing. Most of the local restaurants and shops will also be open for visitors to enjoy on island.

Some of Nantucket Island Retail’s Christmas Stroll weekend events includes:

  • Monelle is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. where shoppers can enjoy the store’s annual fortune cookie sale for special discounts.
  • Nantucket Boat Basin Authentic Shop will be open all weekend, starting on Thursday and closing on Monday for the season. Specialty Stroll Scarfs will be on sale (they are an island favorite for more than seven years with last year’s sold out by Saturday afternoon (so be sure to get there early).
  • Follain will curate “healthy home spa” gift sets and offer healthy snacks throughout the weekend.
  • Freedman’s of Nantucket will serve a Swedish drink (hot mulled wine) and Scottish butter cookies.
  • Nantucket Prime will present a special holiday menu.
  • Table No. 1 presents a White Christmas celebration featuring a Raw Bar & White Wines for Christmas on Saturday December 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. -Meet Nantucket oyster and scallop farmers and taste top picks for holiday parties. (For every bottle of wine sold at Table No. 1 during the stroll, $2 will benefit Brant Point Shellfish Hatchery)
