If you’re looking for a haute post-holiday collaboration to cap 2015, this join venture between Berluti and Krug is it.

The partnership between a shoe brand and a Champagne house might have some scratching their heads, but the more you think about it, the more it will make sense.

Berluti, a high-end menswear retailer known for its elegant footwear, leather goods and fashion items, is a subsidiary brand of LVMH, while Krug also falls under the brands umbrella at Moët Hennessy • Louis Vuitton S.A. Both brands were founded in the 19th century, and not only share the same philosophy of greatness, but also the same prestige in the world of luxury.

The first chapter in the partnership saw the creation of a special “black cherry” Berluti patina. This is also not accidental: the patina was created in tribute to the Champagne house’s founder, Joseph Krug, who was well known for keeping a notebook in the same, distinctive color by his side in order to jot down his thoughts and ideas.

LVMH, the family-run group that owns both brands in addition to over 70 other luxury companies, shared the news of the Berluti and Krug collaboration via social media, explaining that the venture creates “a unique pairing of shoemaking savoir-faire and prestige Champagne.” The brand also explained the partnership, noting that both brands share a “philosophy that perpetuates their heritage through an ongoing quest for excellence.”

The presentation of the patina provided an opportunity to propose an original tasting of Krug Champagnes, each paired with a Berluti shoe model. In the near future, expect to taste champagnes that match up with each Berluti shoe model.

In addition to personalization of shoes with the Krug patina, Berluti introduced a collection of “Krug by Berluti” bags.
