Blue Star Donuts, a beloved Portland institution, is the hottest new spot on Abbot Kinney. Their booze-infused Blueberry Bourbon Basil donut is definitely not for kids thanks to a healthy dose of Bulleit Bourbon in the batter. These babies are simply spectacular: they're made from a classic brioche recipe that originated in the south of France which takes 18 hours to make and is made from scratch every day. Ingredients include a sustainable bread flour from Shepherds Grain, cage free eggs, whole hormone-free milk and a European-style butter. You better come early though: selections sell out quickly.

2 Salt & Pepper Caramel Donut at ICDC
ICDC has created many a fan since opening its door on Beverly Blvd. this past April. This sweet spot from Amy Knoll Fraser of Redbird and pastry chef Mariah Swan has a plethora of fabulous flavors, but its Salt & Pepper Caramel donut is definitely making waves. Other standouts include the ICDC—a salted caramel donut topped with creamy vanilla ice cream and a shot of espresso from Vittoria Coffee Roasters—and the Rocky Road: a caramel-coated donut with chocolate and housemade marshmallow.

You'll close your eyes in ecstasy after sampling Pastry Chef Rebecca Merhej's housemade bomboloni during a brunch outing at Manhattan Beach hotspot Love & Salt. Her sugar-dusted donuts come filled with housemade jam, nutella and lemon curd for our idea of a donut daydream.

5 Pumpkin Fool at Sidecar Doughnuts
Sidecar Doughnuts only opened its Santa Monica location on Tuesday (yesterday), but already it's one of the most fabulous places to find designer donuts in all of La La Land. You'll go gaga for its Butter & Salt creation—a vanilla bean cake with brown butter glaze and fleur de sel—but there are a ton of options to whet your donut whistle, from Maple Bacon to Southern Gentleman Pecan Pie (raised and topped with pecan pie "filling" made with Steens Cane Syrup & Buffalo Trace Bourbon, fresh whipped soured cream, brown butter pecans, and our signature pie crust crumble) and the lovely Lemon & Thyme to our favorite seasonal treat, the Pumpkin Fool: a raised donut topped with a house made pumpkin and mascarpone mousse, whipped soured cream, and gingersnap crumble.
