Lincoln has been inching closer to to true luxury status with the release of each subsequent car since the brand moved into its own design lab a few years ago. We are now seeing the fruits of that top-secret labor in the new 2016 Lincoln MKX, their new, top-of-the-line SUV.  While it’s fun to see Matthew McConaughey in the latest set of Lincoln commercials directed by Gus Van Sant, it’s hard to tell from that just how nice the new model really is.

Haute Living recently had the chance to give the new 2016 MKX a test drive and we were impressed. Materials feel top-grade, with seats made of supple, leather with contrast stitches. Touches like matte wood and stainless finishes on the dash speak to a superior generation of interior styling. Features like Ravel audio systems, a front camera that deploys from behind the grill’s Lincoln badge, and a V6 EcoBoost engine really makes the MKX (and Lincoln with it) feel like it has arrived.

Aside from the high-end look and feel, there is a lot of tech you don’t see. Drivers can choose their preferred drive style (sport, comfort, normal) as all as the color of the interior lights. Don’t even get us started on the heated/cooled massaging seats that offer a better massage than a lot of massage chairs on the market. Remote start your car on very hot or very cold days using the remote start ap, or use it for road side assistance.

The information system does far more than navigate, functioning like a true computer, updating weather info, fuel prices of nearby service stations, movie listings and much more.

The MKX’s camera game is tight. The camera gives a view not only from front and back, but also from above with the help of no less than four cameras (which have their own washer fluid). There are also a lot of semi-autonomous driver aides which increase safety and the sense of being cared for such as sensors to help you keep your lane, as well as parking assist. The parking assist has 12 sensors – some of which can tell you if you’ll fit into a spot if you’re cruising below 22 mph and help you get into it as long as you keep your hands off the wheel.

In addition to the regular models, Lincoln is rolling out two Black Label editions in Thoroughbred and Muse themes, which are indicated by a black “x” on the car’s rear MKX badge. The Thoroughbred features warm-toned woods and a rich saddle leather inside, while the Muse vernon is an exercise in neutrals of muted colors.

With these editions Lincoln is exploring it’s edge, which is going to bring luxury buyers back the the American brand, and excite those who never left.
